Hello, I’m Gavin Smith, better known as RacingGav!
My love for horse racing was ignited growing up by my father, a lifelong fan of the sport and it only grew deeper by living in Hereford – home to its own racecourse and near to the legendary Cheltenham racecourse. Since turning 18 over a decade ago, my passion for the sport has only grown year on year.
In February 2022, I launched @RacingGav on X, where I’ve built a community of 15,000 followers with my horse racing insights and betting tips. Before going full-time with RacingGav, I spent a decade in the insurance industry, specialising in solutions for the security sector and in particular – Close Protection (bodyguarding). Assessing risk and reward was second nature then - and it still is now. What started as a hobby - alongside my full-time work - has now become my career.
In January 2024, I decided to leave insurance and launch a Discord server, where as well as accessing my exclusive content, racing fans could connect, share their own tips and also discuss the sport year-round. Unlike one-way tipster services, I wanted to build an interactive community - and that’s exactly what we’ve created with the Discord. Horse racing is the UK’s second most attended sport (coming only behind Football), yet it’s rare to find friends as obsessed with it as I am (sound familiar?). Now whether it’s a big Saturday race or a quiet Monday night of AW (All Weather) action, there is always someone to talk to!
I’m excited to be joining the betting.co.uk team and to share my knowledge and views with you! I’m looking forward to providing regular free to access content once again. I hope you enjoy the content and crucially make a profit from the selections!

Trading financial products carries a high risk to your capital, especially trading leverage products such as CFDs. CFDs are complex instruments and come with a high risk of losing money rapidly due to leverage. Between 74-89% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs. You should consider whether you understand how CFDs work and whether you can afford to take the high risk of losing your money.
