We are going to look into the Turners Novices Chase which is taking place on the New Course here at Cheltenham. 3rd-day race and always an interesting one. Read on to find out who I am taking on for this year's run and which role the weather plays in my predictions. Let's get started.

My Ante Post Tip for the Turners Novices Chase - Cheltenham 2023

For my second selection in Quickfire Week I am going to be taking on the red hot favourite for the Turners Novices Chase which is trained by Gordon Elliott in the name of Mighty Potter.

He has been a revelation since winning at Punchestown in April and has turned into an extremely exciting chasing prospect but I do have my reservations about his chances with the conditions looking to be quicker than expected. He isn’t totally ground dependant but he will certainly act better on soft conditions and this is really where his best attributes can be put to good use.

The problem is, here in Cheltenham there has been no rain and it’s not looking likely that we will see much between now and the festival. Considering Mighty Potter looks like more of a 3 miler, the 2 miles 3 furlongs round Cheltenham may be on the sharp side for him on this better ground.

Appreciate it represents the best chance for Champion trainer Willie Mullins but he is a 9yo now and I don't think even Willie quite knows what to do with him himself. His best day is likely to be when he won the Supreme here by 24 lengths but this is a different kettle of fish and I don't personally think we will ever see it in that sort of form again.

The selection is going to be Banbridge who is a real box ticker in this race and will try to make it back-to-back wins at the Cheltenham Festival when he lines up this year. He is particularly well suited to the track at Cheltenham, the dry ground is much to his liking as well and he will certainly feel more at home on this surface in comparison to the first two mentioned.

Banbridge is one of those horses that on his day I think can be a really good horse and everything from conditions, track trip all seem to be perfect for him this time around. He is likely to be ridden more prominent than he was the last day and considering he jumps so well too, I can see him bowling along off in front and could be hard to catch up the home straight. We could potentially see a primed Banbridge on the Thursday of the festival and is my pick at 7/2 who clearly holds the value at this point!
