Thank you for joining me once again. You'll all be familiar with my horse racing tips I'm sure, but this time around, you get to share my golf betting tips too.
This week is a cracker, as we have two big golfing events to cover. First there’s the Jonsson Workwear Open in South Africa on the DP World Tour and then we have the Corales Puntacana Championship, which is on the PGA Tour. Both events are set up for some real low scoring golf.
The Top 64 in the world rankings this week are taking part in the WGC Matchplay event, which opens the door for many players who are trying to win their first event on the PGA Tour and I can't wait to watch these unfold.
My betting picks for you this week will be four selections in the Jonsson Workwear Open and then three selections in the Puntacana Championship. I advise playing these as EW singles and EW doubles.
If you are looking for some free bets to save using your own money then my recommendation is to head over to BetVictor right now, where there’s a cracking BetVictor Bet £5, Get £30 in Free Bets offer up for grabs when you use my exclusive Ginger Joe sign up deal.
The DP World Tour is off to South Africa for this week’s event and the course is set up for the players to shoot some real low numbers. J.C. Ritchie won the event last year and lines up to defend his title again but it looks like it will be a big ask for him to repeat that performance, despite being a local lad.
I have decided to go with four selections for this event, which I’ll discuss in order of strength and I can’t wait for this one to get under way.
My first selection is the very well-established Spaniard, Rafa Cabrera Bello, who seems to be a rejuvenated character of late and has started 2023 in really good form. I like to side with players that can shoot rounds regularly in the 60s and he is definitely one of them.
His first win on Tour came from shooting a final round of 60 to win by one and he seems to play very well under pressure too. He won the Dubai Desert Classic and was a Ryder Cup player in 2016 and is now playing better than ever. I think he looks overpriced at 45/1 as he has the complete game to play well here this week.
Julien Brun is my second selection and he is rapidly becoming a star, having had a very good year up until now. He started off by finishing fifth in the Dubai Desert Classic, then tied for seventh place in the Kenyan Open.
Next, he finished in a tie for twelfth in the Singapore Open, earning himself thirteenth position in the Race to Dubai. At 25/1 he’s short enough in the betting but he is likely to put on another bold show. In fairness, he is yet to win on the DP World Tour, but I’m sure his maiden victory is only round the corner.
If you are into the type of golfers that just attack, attack, attack, then Sami Valimaki is a player to follow. In an event where I expect the winning score to be towards the twenty under mark, I want a player in my selections this week, who will just go for the flags from hole one, all the way through the seventy-two-hole event.
Sami Valimaki already has a DP World Tour win to his name and brings a nice bit of valueat 33/1. His win came early on in his career, having only played five events before breaking his maiden, but I can see him picking up tour win number two this year and this course is likely to suit his style very well indeed.
My final selection for the DP World Tour this week will be the 28-year-old Malaysian, Gavin Green, who is a superb ball striker. His putting this year has been absolutely brilliant and the area he has actually struggled with a touch has been his driving, which is rather unusual from him.
However, I expect him to bounce back to form again here, especially if he has that putter rocking again this week. The open course will help him keep the ball in play off the tee and that should enable him to get near the top of the leader board this week. He is a very well-rounded player, who has won events all over the globe and he brings fantastic value at 40/1. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to see him back in the winners’ circle again soon.
The PGA Tour heads over to the Dominican Republic this week, bringing a big opportunity for players outside the World Top 64 to get their hands on a PGA Tour title. The Top 64 are contesting in the World Match Play this week, so it opens up a really competitive event and a great golf betting opportunity for us.
This is another event where I expect the score to be near to 20 under par, so my three selections are all players who know how to score low.
Taylor Pendrith is definitely player I fancy this week and even though I think he’s a little short in the betting, I can’t get away from some of the stats he has produced on the Tour this year. He is third in strokes gained from 175 to 200 yards, he’s in the Top 10 of scramblers from 30 yards and in, and he is in the Top 20 for the putting stats at the moment. That all looks like a deadly recipe for success here.
As mentioned, his price of 20/1 is a bit tight, considering he hasn’t actually won on the PGA Tour yet, but he won't get too many better opportunities than this and I’m 100% certain he’s ready to put up a big display here this week.
This young Danish player has already won twice on the DP World Tour and it won’t be long until he gets that PGA Tour win to his name as well. He is an absolute superstar in the making and at 28/1 he’s a great value bet too.
I strongly believe he will make it into the Top 50 in the world in the near future and this contest is a prime opportunity for Nicolai to break his PGA Tour maiden this week.
My final selection for the PGA Tour this week is somewhat a wildcard pick of mine, but at 66/1 Justin brings a nice each way angle into this open event. He played really well here last year and finished in a tie for 15th place.
This course suits his game nicely and even though he will need to turn his form around a little, he definitely comes here with a squeak at huge odds.
