After another strong week of selections, which included the 20/1 winner Adrian Meronk in the Italian Open, we are triple handed with Tour events this week and I’m looking to add even more profit to the balance this season. The three events this week come from the DP World Tour which hosts the Soudal Open in Belgium, The PGA Tour which hosts the Byron Nelson, and the LIV Golf Tour host the Tulsa Championship, but my focus this week will be mainly on DP World Tour and PGA Tour. For the LIV Golf event I will pick one selection to add to the selections for a potential treble if we are fortunate enough to land the other two events and I’m feeling really confident with my selections for this week, so lets get into it!
We have some unbelievable action over the three Tours this week and now would be absolutely the best time to try out some free bets to help ease the pocket. This week I have one of my favourite offers for you to try, courtesy of Betfred. Their current offer is Bet £10 and Get £40 in Free Bets. As we’re already 340 points up for the season, why not put 10 of those points to some good use.
We have a really good crop of French players coming through the ranks this season and Clement Sordet is the one I fancy the most for this week's Soudal Open. You can get a sweet 60/1 on him to get it done, which looks plenty overpriced to me. Whether or not I backed him was going to depend on his opening price, which I thought would be around 33/1 for this event but the price on offer has me really getting stuck into the Frenchman this week.
He is a really consistent player and his last 18 rounds have produced scores between 67 and 72 and he should really enjoy the targeted golf that is required here this week. He has really hit the ground running this season, finishing seventh in Korea, then ninth this week in the Italian Open. You really need a good approach to play at the Rinkven International and Clement’s stats this year have been superb. His driving average stands at 324 yards, which has him in the Top 10 on Tour. He is seventh on Tour with his putt average on greens in regulation and fourth on Tour for average putts per round. Clement is playing like a man who will be winning on Tour, his stats back that point up completely and he should find this course really suits his game too.
Another maiden on Tour is Marcus Helligkilde, who has enjoyed a great season so far and is currently sat in 32nd place in the Race to Dubai series and could get himself a little closer to the Top 10 with a good performance this week. He was clearly in fine form after finishing second in the Korean Championship and even though he was eligible for the Italian Open last week, he took a break and will hopefully come here fully rejuvenated and ready to continue his progress towards a first DP World Tour Title.
His last four tournament figures show like this, 13th, 17th, 75th and then 2nd, so he is full of confidence and has looks like he is ready to gain his breakthrough win on Tour. He played quite well last year, which was his first season on the DP World Tour, but he has seemingly improved again this year and Marcus has all of the stats you want to see for this course, on paper at least. He is he 18th in the stroke average this year, way above Tour average when it comes to hitting greens in regulation and he is also eighth in the putting stats at the minute, so he is certainly going the right way.
German player Yannik Paul has become a regular on my golf betting tips channel and the fact there is 20/1 available has tempted me in again, having fully expected to see him much shorter this time around. He is well known for being a superb iron player and this course really does set up well for that particular attribute. I mentioned in last week’s episode that I was torn between Adrian Meronk and Yannik Paul and thankfully got it right.
Last week’s win puts three-time winner Meronk right in the picture for a Ryder Cup spot, but a big performance from Yannik Paul this week could spice things up again, as both would be in a very similar position if that were to happen. With his greens stat at 73% he should be flying, but one small thing to mention is that he has played a lot of golf lately and will need to be fully focused to keep up his solid form.
Although Andy Sullivan has slipped down the world rankings to number 321, he has recently shown positive signs of a return to form, especially so in recent weeks. Although he hasn’t played on Tour too much of late, he has been picking up wins on the Clutch Pro Tour, which is a mini-Tour, to get his eye back on the game.
He’s a four-time winner on the DP World Tour and even though his last win was eight years ago, after his tie for tenth place at the Korean Championship, he said his game is right back where it needs to be. This could be a big chance for Andy to get back into the winner’s enclosure. He has been playing very good golf on some smaller circuits recently and he’s certainly a great each way shout at 75/1, provided he can keep up the pace for four rounds.
Ewen Ferguson rapidly became one of my favourite players to watch on the DP World Tour after he won the ISPS Handa Championship in August last year where he shot a first round 61 and never looked back from there. He has an awesome golf swing and his iron control is superb when he is on form. This year he was third in the SDC and then finished fourth in the Jonsson Workwear Open.
He did miss the cut in the Italian last week, but he carded a 75 and a 73, which was an improvement from day one and I don’t think it will affect him here. He is an attacker of the flags and I like having him in the selections this week as he is totally fearless. He’s above average on the greens and over the past three years, his percentage has got better and better. 50/1 is a more than fair price.
Now, I doubt I’ll be getting any brownie points for originality here, but I think Jordan Spieth has all of the tools to go well for his third crack at the Byron Nelson. He finished ninth in 2021 and placed second last year, missing out by just one shot. He’s coming back to a familiar track where the scoring is likely to be extremely low and his short game is one to have on side.
Jordan has returned to some really good form this season and as a 13-time winner on Tour, it won’t be long before he is back in the winner’s enclosure. This year alone he has finished fourth in the Arnold Palmer, third in the Valspar, fourth in the Masters and second in the RBC. Jordan Spieth is in seriously good form again and it would be no surprise if he were to get on the birdie train again here at the TPC Craig Ranch GC.
Over the past few years a lot of first-time winners have come out of the Byron Nelson. It has been set up for players that can really go low and Eric Cole is definitely one who can do that. Eric has knocked on the door a few times this year and has shown he can perform under pressure when the stakes get high late on in the round.
He was second in the Honda Classic, fifth in the Mexico Open and had a decent finish in the Players Championship too. I think for a player who is on the upgrade, the 100/1 price is an insult to his chances and with plenty of places available, he’s great value for an each way shout too
Ben Griffin is another yet to win on Tour, but he’s a youngster who is going the right way and has been on the up for the past year. He has had some decent finishes without being able to maintain his position over four rounds, but he is starting to get the hang of things and regularly finishes in the top 30.
Whilst he hasn’t necessarily looked like winning so far, he’s a player that’s definitely learning on the job and in my eyes is handling things very well. I think Ben could be the surprise package of the week in the Byron Nelson and at such a huge price, he’s worth a chance.
Tom Kim is my final selection on the PGA Tour for this week and on a course where momentum seems to really be in favour, I think he can really take advantage. He already has two wins to his name on the PGA Tour, he feeds off the crowd’s energy and he is only 20 years old so there is a long, bright career ahead of him.
He has already made it into the Top 20 of the World Golf Rankings and I think Tom Kim has a great chance if he starts fast on day one.
In the case that we are fortunate enough to land the spoils in both the DP World Tour and PGA Tour events this week I am going to add Cameron Smith to the list to try and land a tricky treble. He is already a Major winner who certainly has the desire to win as many tournaments as possible.
Cam is the class act on the LIV Golf Tour and is sure to win plenty more big events in the future. Even when he isn’t playing at his best, he can still seem to contest at the very highest level. 11/1 looks plenty of value for Cam Smith, who surely won’t be far away here.
