Yes, it’s golf selection time and this week we have three big events to take a look at across three different tours. We have the PGA Tour in Mexico, the DP World Tour in South Korea and the LIV Golf Tour as it heads to Singapore.
Today, I have two or three selections in all three events. Personally, I’m going to play each of them as Win singles, but also go each way as Doubles and Trebles. Hopefully, one way or another, we can land a nice pot across the three events.
We are currently sat with a profit margin that puts us 398 points up for the season. This week, I’ve put a good chunk of my points on the line, in the hope of further profit. But of course, you should only gamble within your means and budget.
For this week’s action, Ladbrokes are offering plenty of extra places for the golfing action, including a colossal 10 places for the PGA Tour Mexican Open! That alone definitely makes it worth taking a very close look at the Bet £10, Get £40 sign up offer that’s currently up for grabs!
Now, there are a couple of factors to take into consideration when picking selections for the Mexican Open but the most important is the layout of the track. You need to be long off the tee, but you must have a good short game too.
The other factor is a player by the name of Jon Rahm, who is currently just 9/4 to win this event. To be honest, he will be really hard to beat, but there are players in here that can contest at their best and with 10 places on offer I’m going to be brave and sidestep Jon Rahm to hunt for better value.
Byeong-Hun An is a fantastic player who can shoot low wherever he plays and his long game has been fantastic in recent weeks. He also played exceptionally well in a Zurich doubles competition just last week, so I think his price tag is rather juicy.
Prior to Zurich, he finished in a tie for sixth at the Valero Texas Open and I think he will play well again this week. He is outside of the Top 100, but at his best he’s got an excellent chance here.
Aaron Rai is a player that I feel I haven’t paid enough attention too, but he has certainly caught my eye just lately. He is absolutely fearless in these big events and I think he’s very underrated, especially on a course where you need players that can shoot low.
I think Aaron’s approach play will be vital here. He’s excellent from 150 yards and in and with good iron play being vital this week, that is definitely one tool he has in his bag. He is a two-time DP world Tour winner and I think he’s good enough to win on the PGA Tour too. he’s an interesting contender and plenty of places on the table, is definitely worth a look.
Patrick Rodgers was a bit of a phenomenon when he was a youngster and even though he hasn't necessarily fulfilled his potential, he has become a top player and seemingly in the form of his life just lately.
He was leading the Valero early on and finished a clear fifth, before playing really well in RBC Heritage, ending up with a finish in the top twenty. Not too much else to add, other than to say that the course here should suit him very well. There’s definitely players at I’d rate below him and they are all at much shorter prices.
Over on the DP World Tour they head to Korea to play the Jack Niklaus course and this looks to be a serious test of golf. Looking over the course map, the greens are all very undulating and finding those sweet flat spots will be absolutely vital. Players need to be good with an iron, but absolutely solid with a putter to have any chance here.
One player that has really impressed me recently is undoubtedly Yannik Paul. This German player is just fantastic with his irons and decent enough with a putter to handle the windy conditions expected this week.
He has already won this season and has rapidly become one of my favourite players to watch. He keeps it simple, but effective and at a such a good price, Yannik is my number one pick for the DP World Tour this week.
Richard Mansell is a player I watch very closely having played with him on the Europro Tour myself. His game is absolutely class and he is certainly going to break his Tour maiden sooner or later, having threatened on more than one occasion. He just needs to keep his game together in the final round.
I clearly remember playing with Richard and Tomasz Anderson at Enfield, where I was chuffed with myself to shoot three under. But Richard and Tomasz put that score to shame, by shooting ten and twelve under respectively. That was over just 18 holes and not surprisingly, they finished first and second in the event.
Richard has since risen up through the ranks of the Challenge Tour and he is now a force to be reckoned with on the DP World Tour too. Somehow, he seems to play better when conditions are poor, so with windy weather forecast for the coming week, I think he could well end up with another trophy to his name.
Antoine Rozner has become a regular pick of mine on Tour and I really admire his game. He is solid as they come and doesn’t necessarily have a weak part of his game. This year he has finished sixth in the Singapore Open, fifth in the Thailand Classic and then finished up third in the SDC Championship just a few weeks ago.
He is a truly cracking player that's fascinating to watch and I think he is going to be hard to knock out of the placings. He’s very consistent and should give us a very good run for our money
Jordan Smith is another player I know quite well. He was the pro down at Bowood and has just sky-rocketed since turning from club pro to Tour pro and he has an abundance of natural talent. He isn't the most creative shout being, the 14/1 favourite, but I think with the spread of players I have put up so far, he only makes the book even stronger.
Like Richard Mansell, Jordan won the Europro Tour, then went on to do the same at the Challenge Tour. He simply just gets better and better. No points for originality, but this big hitter is sure to be there or thereabouts at the finish.
The LIV Golf Tour moves to Singapore this week, following on from last week’s exciting action in Adelaide. The course can be tricky, particularly the from hole three to hole seven, which is known as the Dragon’s Tail. Anyway, I have two players for the LIV Golf event, both of them placed for us last week and are likely to do the same again if they continue in the same form.
I’m starting off with Cameron Smith, who seems as hungry as ever for victories on Tour. He played very solidly in his home country last week and I think he will back it up again here. I don’t buy into all of the nonsense that he has had a bad prep for this, he is way more professional than that.
My personal opinion is that Cam would have liked to peak a little earlier in the season, but he’s coming into form nicely now and definitely comes here with an obvious chance.
Patrick Reed is my final selection for this week and like Cam Smith, he got us some place money last week. Again, nothing too flashy, but I think he will put up a big performance here.
He is already a Major winner and happens to be in really good form right now. Love him or hate him, he has a very good game to go to battle with and this tricky little track should suit him very well indeed.
As ever, the best of luck to those of you who follow me in and don’t forget to check out the best prices and offers right here at Betting.co.uk.
