Let’s keep the momentum going…

It’s a lovely sunny evening in my part of the world and I hope that you are all enjoying the same. The start of the brand-new Flat season has brought us a lot of racing to try and keep up with and it seems that sticking to just the Ascot card today worked out just fine.

At the end of the day, we had two winners at Ascot, Maximum Impact and Chindit, who both romped home to keep us in profit. Hopefully we can continue to add to the kitty as we look ahead to tomorrow’s action.

I actually have a whopping six selections for tomorrow, three at Ayr, one at Salisbury and two at Lingfield. However, it’s a very open day of racing again tomorrow, so nothing to go too heavy on. I’ve gone a bit quickfire here, but there will be much more detail in my video, which will be live later on.

Joe’s bookie favourite for Thursday

Today, my bookie pick is a big favourite with horse racing fans, Bet 365. If you don’t have an account already, then take a look at the current welcome bonus that’s on offer right now. All you have to do is sign up and bet £10 and you’ll get £30 in free bets – perfect for a hot weekend of racing fun!

Ginger Joe’s winning picks for Thursday 4 May

2.00 Ayr: Bert Kibbler @ 9/4

Bert Kibbler is my first selection of the day and he comes into this Handicap as the top-weighted individual. But he is already a multiple winner on turf and ran a career best at Southwell just a few starts back, so that isn’t really a concern.

He looks like he’s on a handy mark for this race, especially as jockey Ginacula Sanna takes a valuable 7lbs off his weight. It’s likely they’ll all come at the finish bunched together, but Bert Kibbler is a gritty horse and one that’s highly likely to be there or thereabouts at the line.

3.05 Ayr: Flylikeaneagle @ 7/4

A four-time winner last year for Lucinda Russell, Flylikeaneagle has really got the hang of things of late. He has very solid C&D form here at Ayr, which is always a big plus point at this course.

Star Shield is the obvious danger here, but off the back of Flylikeaneagle’s latest run, I think he’s more than capable of battling it out with him if it comes to that. He’s had a small break since winning last time I think he’s more than ready to improve again here.

4.10 Ayr: Berry Edge @ 5/2

Berry Edge is probably the safest option in this race, having achieved numerous runner-up spots last season. He did run poorly on his final start on the all-weather, but he will much prefer the fast conditions here. In fact, the faster the ground, the better for him.

Even though the current Favourite, Kalahari Prince, only has ¾ length to find with my selection, he has looked really out of form lately and Berry Edge gets my vote in conditions likely to bring out the best in him.

5.25 Salisbury: Fighting Poet @ 10/1

Trainer Richard Phillips has done really well with his Flat runners of late and I think Fighting Poet might just be his dark horse coming into this race. He has generally been tried at a mile and a half, but seemingly improved for the step up to two miles even though he didn’t quite see it out.

He gave me the impression that a trip somewhere in the middle would see him used to best effect. Interestingly, he tries 1m 6f this time and that may be the answer for him, as it will be a race with plenty of pace. Admittedly, he also needs to transfer his all-weather form to turf, but he could well be a bit of a plot horse here.

6.05 Lingfield: Revolutionary Man @ 10/3

For this one, I'm going to leave the top of the market alone and put my money on Revolutionary Man, who has been in great form over seven furlongs just recently. He’s been tried over all kinds of trips and he stays further, but definitely seems at his most effective over this distance.

Also, the very talented Billy Loughnane takes the ride and he wouldn’t have been easy to book as he’s in huge demand right now. To me, that suggests connections must be really sold on this one’s chances and they will have him spot on for this. Billy really boosts his already strong credentials in this race and he should have plenty to offer at the finish. run last time out should

7.05 Lingfield: Grandfather Tom @ 11/2

The time might be right for Grandfather Tom. He doesn’t win too often, but comes into this race on a career-low mark and looks like another good run could be on the cards for him. He does have a C&D win to his credit, albeit from a while ago, but on the back of his recent spin at Southwell, he could be ready to put on a big performance.

His trainer, Robert Cowell, is a master at producing runners for five furlong sprints and he will know what he’s doing bringing his lad to Lingfield tomorrow. He’s great value in a race where he seems to tick all of the right boxes.
