There’s some fantastic racing action taking place at Punchestown and I’ve got some great selections for you. I’m keeping it short and sweet today and then getting my winning picks lined up for the weekend.
Now before you go any further don’t forget to take a good look at this William Hill sign up offer which is Bet £10, Get £30 in Free Bets. Use it today and get your Free Bets in time for the weekend.
In the opener, I am breaking one of my own rules by backing more than one runner. I simply can’t decide between them, as they both merit a lot of respect in this race. So, I’ve taken the easy option and backed both of them each way.
The first of my picks is the Paul Nolan runner Ifiwerearichman. He has some seriously good form in the book and won well at Down Royal, before running even better in three races that were significantly higher in grade than this. The drop back in grade carries no concerns, he’s in great form and Rob James claims 7lbs off his weight, which is a huge plus. I would be very surprised if he doesn’t go close here.
My second choice is the lovely mare Broomfield Bijou, who won a Maiden last time out, beating a well fancied odds-on shot with tons in hand. I’m sure that last run will have done her confidence the world of good and she has a big chance of clocking up another win here. I am confident we are going to see a repeat performance.
Mortal is a horse I have followed closely since he switched to the Cross Country Chase discipline and has run very solidly in defeat behind stablemate Delta Work on more than one occasion. Experience round the banks is the key to these unique races and he is really starting to get the hang of things.
Although he was pulled up in the Ulster National last time out, I am not at all bothered by that. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the plan all along, with that run being a prep for this race. Despite this race coming up quickly, he is a horse that needs to be kept busy and the fact connections are happy for him to turn up here says a lot. Gordon Elliott has dominated these races just lately he is highly likely to add another to his tally here.
This race is a real puzzle to solve, but the one for me is Grozni. He is very well-handicapped here and won’t have to improve much to be involved. Trainer Charles Byrnes is doing an excellent good job with this lad and in an open race like this, he won’t need to answer many questions.
One to take note of for next season is the Willie Mullins runner Sir Argus. He looks to me like he’s shaping up to be a Chaser and I think he’ll do much better over fences than he has managed over Hurdles. Definitely one to keep an eye on for the future.
Lilith is my NAP for today. She won this race from the front last year and I’m convinced that a repeat performance has been the plan for her all season. Lilith is a solid mare who jumps for fun and is particularly well-suited to the track here.
She is only 5lb higher in the weights than last year and I imagine the same front-running tactics will be applied this time around. She brings a great chance for the English team to have a winner on the board and I would love to see her go and do it again
Best of Irish luck to you all today if you’re coming along for the ride. But before you get your bets on, don’t forget to check out all of the great deals here at Betting.co.uk first.
