Ginger Joe - Two Top Tips for Brighton, Tuesday 30 May 2023

We’re off to the seaside!

To start the week off I’m heading to sunny Brighton and I have two very strong selections for you. I’m looking to start off where we finished last week, which is with some winners!

In the Irish 2000 Guineas I put up Paddington as the bet of the weekend and he won in stylish fashion with an SP of just 5/2, but when I put him up there was 9/2 available. He won under a great ride from Ryan Moore which that took Paddington to four wins in a row.

For Tuesday at Brighton, I have two selections for you and both have really strong credentials back at Brighton, which really is a key factor. It’s a really good card of competitive action here and I have another pick at double figure odds you can find out about in my video. My dark horse selection needs to bounce back, but conditions fall in his favour for the first time in a long while.

Best Brighton bets for Tuesday

2.10 Vandad @ 13/2

The opening race at Brighton is a tricky puzzle to solve, but I think Vandad has been waiting in the wings and he has tempted me in at 13/2. He is one of three runners in the race for trainer Michael Attwater, who also runs Battle Point and I’m Mable, with the latter unlucky to go down by ¾ length over course and distance to the favourite for this race Big Time Maybe.

I’m Mable was my selection here last week, as she had dropped to a mark nearly 10lbs lower than her last winning effort and was unlucky in defeat. Both I’m Mable and the favourite Big Time have obvious chances again and there’s not a lot to choose between them, but I think Vandad is the one to side with here.

He has struggled on the all weather since January, but back on turf he must have a really good chance. He has dropped down in class to contest here off top weight, but he is currently 5lbs lower than his last win. In addition, both wins on turf come here over course and distance and on firm ground which he hasn’t had for some time, so it’s fair to assume he will fare much better back in conditions that bring out the best in him. He’s unbeaten here so far and running off a mark that makes him ready to strike.

4.10 Little Blue Boy @ 6/1

Sir Winston is a runner here for Roger Varian and he is a horse that has been on my radar, but the fast ground is a little bit of a risk and has put me off his chances, bit despite him being a big danger. The horse I think is going to take the beating here is last year’s winner Little Blue Boy, who is something of a course specialist here at Brighton, with form figures of 131311 and comes back to this race off his winning mark from last season.

He was disappointing last time out, which was his first start for 190 days but I’m sure connections would’ve had this race planned as a follow-up and I think he is going to go very well indeed. He is versatile ground-wise, whereas a few others have questions and I think if he turns up fit and ready to go, which he should after that Doncaster spin, then he has to come into the race with a big chance.

His Brighton form stacks up very nicely and another bold bid can be expected. I will be very disappointed if Sir Winston gets the better of him, but my gut tells me that Little Boy Blue will prevail here, assuming he’s primed and ready to go.
