  • My best betting tips for Day 3 of the Fairyhouse Festival
  • Six more winning picks including The Irish Grand National
  • Keep your eyes peeled for my exclusive Aintree guide

Welcome back for the final day of the Fairyhouse Easter Festival

I’m hoping we can continue our good run of form by backing a few more winners today to close the meeting with an even bigger profit.

Yesterday my NAP landed at 7/2, but we also had a 10/1 winner and finished the day by backing the winner of the Bumper at 5/4, meaning a very profitable day for all that followed me in.

I’ve got some decent selections at decent prices for you to take a look at today, but personally, I’ll only be playing with small stakes, as we have Aintree to look forward to later in the week. On that note, my runner-by-runner Aintree guide is coming very soon, so stay tuned!

Today’s best bookie selection

With Aintree fast approaching, it’s definitely worth considering this great sign-up offer from BetVictor. New customers can take advantage of the Bet £5, Get £30 in free bets offer that’s available right now.

2.40: COUGAR @ 8/1

I have no selection for the opener today, but for the 2.40 I’m taking the fresh angle again and backing Cougar, who comes here after a nice break.  A few of his rivals are definitely better horses, but it was abundantly clear yesterday that many of the horses that ran at Cheltenham a few weeks ago were in serious need of a break.

However, Cougar comes here fresh as you like and won his first two Hurdle starts in really good style and showing a fantastic turn of foot to close both races. He was a tad disappointing behind Lossiemouth at Leopardstown following that, but he pulled the arms of Mark Walsh most of the way round and never really gave himself a chance.

I think the break will have done him the world of good and with most of his rivals having contested at Cheltenham, I truly think Cougar is in with a great chance here. He will have had plenty of schooling done at home and I think if he is up there at the final hurdle, his ability to pull out a sprint finish will do the rest and he will be hard to beat.

3.15: CADATHARLA @ 4/1 and A GREAT VIEW @ 20/1

With five or six places up for grabs, I couldn’t resist throwing two darts at this board. In a very open Handicap, Cadatharla looks extremely promising and I see his price getting shorter by the minute. He initially opened up at 11/2, which was a very backable EW price, but he is being punted strongly ahead of his run today.

He was only just touched off last time and gets a valuable 7lb taken off his back by Aidan Kelly, which can only boost his chances even more. If you can still get 4/1, he is definitely worth a punt.

At a bigger price, I fancy A Great View, another for JP McManus. He is now a 12-year-old, but he returned to form last time out to finish a very creditable sixth, which should put him spot on for a place. Although he has been a tad inconsistent, he could have one more in his locker and at 20/1 I think he is well worth a small EW play.

Try something a bit different!

5.00: PANDA BOY @ 10/1 and MUST BE OBEYED @ 20/1

For today’s feature race, The Irish Grand National, there are plenty of places on offer at every bookie site, so I have two selections for you, both with really good chances. Panda Boy is the first of these. He comes into this race fresh; he’s got plenty of big field experience and is likely to go well again off a very low weight.

He finished 3rd in the Paddy Power Chase over Christmas and has promised to stay these extended trips since that day. He is only a seven-year-old and I think he is weighted to go very close indeed provided he jumps well and we don’t get too much more rain.

Must Be Obeyed is another carrying a featherweight and I fancy him to go well too. He probably has some of the best form in the book too, having beaten Mahler Mission at the beginning of the season.

He was also looking like he’d win the National Hunt Chase, until a highly unfortunate fall at the last. The further this lad has gone, the better he has looked and I have no doubts he will stay this trip. He’s a fantastic each way alternative to some of the more fancied runners in this race today.

6.10: ILE ATLANTIQUE @ 13/8 (NAP)

Ile Atlantique (NAP) ran an absolute blinder last time out, when he was very narrowly beaten by Stellar Story and he looks sure to improve further based on that run. A few things went wrong for him that day, but he was a tough nut to crack and battled on nicely to just get denied by a head at the finish.

Also, Patrick Mullins has opted to take the ride on this one rather than Ballyburn, which I feel is highly significant. I expect a big performance from ILE ATLANTIQUE today, he should be hard to beat and likely to take another step forward.
