After a decent string of winning picks last week, I’m sticking to the plan and I have three selections lined up for you, all over the Jumps at Newcastle. The card is relatively weak, so there are plenty of horses with no form ready to show what they’re made of, while others get gambled and show no significant improvement. So, the word is, proceed with caution!
That’s why I’m going to play today’s selections using an each way Patent bet. In case you don’t know, this type of wager is known as a full cover bet and is actually made up of seven bets in total, so all eventualities are covered:
If we are able to land all three selections, it means a nice profit. Although the card at Newcastle tomorrow isn’t overly strong, I believe that the three I have picked out are really good punting opportunities, but do keep an eye on the markets on the day and be sure to back them each way.
My selections will get stronger as the week goes on, but let’s get a bit of profit under our belts on Tuesday and then we can look ahead to the rest of the week.
If you like my three selections for tomorrow, you could to cover your bets right now by using this fantastic sign-up offer from Coral, which is place a £5 bet and get a £20 free bet in return, win or lose. If we start this week off strong, you could find you don’t even need to use your own funds to beat the bookies!
My first selection, Croagh Patrick, comes from Sam England’s yard and her husband Jonathan England will be doing the piloting tomorrow. He’s a decent Chaser and you don’t find too many as consistent as he is these days. He hasn’t managed to win since March 2022, but don’t let that put you off, as he has been running some absolute crackers since then and comes here off the back of a really big effort at Haydock last time out.
He is a very decent jumper, which always helps at Newcastle and he is very well treated on his best efforts. There are a few in this race that may have a few ground concerns, but Croagh Patrick has form on all types of going, although I personally think he may slightly prefer the better ground expected tomorrow.
Although this race looks pretty open for a nine runner Handicap, I think his mark here is rather lenient, considering his current form and I find it hard to see him out of the first three. Ribeye is the Favourite, who runs again for Peter Atkinson after winning in good fashion at Hexham, but this is a step up in grade and he has been hit with a 6lb penalty too.
However, I think Croagh Patrick has a slight advantage here at the weights and he is versatile enough when it comes to conditions, so I see no reason why he shouldn’t be able to put his best foot forward in this race. He definitely looks the most solid option to me.
Killane looks like the best bet here to me, despite having a very mixed bag of form. Admittedly he has plenty of poor runs to his name, but he was very good and gutsy when winning last time out and that's a trait we haven't actually seen from him before, so this could be the shape of things to come.
Ignoring his less-appealing form, he had a really good victory over course and distance back in 2021 and he also has a good win at Carlisle to his name, but this could be the time where he backs up the fantastic performance he put on at his last outing.
If so, he is on a decent mark against a few rather out-of-sorts characters here and he is only 3lb higher this time out. I think he has a big chance if turning up in the right form and it’s worth price checking this one and searching for the best odds you can find on this occasion.
Strong Team may be 10 years old now, but he has been in really good form over a mixed discipline campaign. He ran four times on the all-weather, then finished fourth in a decent Chase event at Catterick last time out, that being only his third ever start over fences.
However, the switch back to Hurdles will be much more within his comfort zone. His last Hurdles start was over course and distance, which resulted in a second place. Although that was six months ago, a repeat effort puts him right in the mix for this race and at 6/1, he is extremely tempting.
There are plenty of runners in this race with questions to answer, but Strong Team has had a more solid campaign. His runs on the all-weather, plus his recent spin over fences, will have done his fitness a great deal of good in readiness for his Newcastle outing. We already know that this flat, galloping track suits him, so this is a great opportunity for Strong Team to get himself back in the winner’s enclosure.
New week, new start and the best way to make sure you don’t miss out on my golden selections is by taking advantage of some of the fantastic offers we have here at Betting.co.uk.
That’s the three selections for you for Tuesday’s action at Newcastle and I'm looking to start strong again this week. I also have some really strong selections lined up for the week ahead, although I won’t release them until they have been declared but make sure you come and join me for any updates in the meantime.
