In betting, the spread is a predetermined amount of points set to attempt to make a game more level. Against the spread betting is where you are backing a team to beat the points spread, rather than backing a team to win the game.

Bookmakers will set a point spread, which is a number created to make a balanced betting market. This is supposed to create an even playing field between the favourite and the underdog.

The spread is the points that the bookmaker thinks the favourite will win by or the underdog to lose by.
