American odds are the preferred method of betting odds used in the USA and are different to how they are displayed in the UK.

In America, the betting favourites odds will be displayed with a minus in front of an amount with the underdogs having a plus sign.

You might see a team to win with odds of -500. In betting terms, this means a bettor would need to bet $500 in order to win $100. If the odds were +500, the bettor would then need to bet $100 in order to receive $500.
