Ante Post

These are bets that are placed in advance of a sporting event taking place.

These kinds of bets are more commonly used in horse racing and greyhound racing and are placed before the market has opened at the meeting’s race course. They are normally placed 24 hours before the start of the race.

The ‘ante’ is Latin for before, but the ‘post’ is not Latin for after, that comes from ‘Betting Post’ which used to see a sign that was set up at a race course in the 19th Century which saw punters queue to place a bet with fixed odds.
