In horse racing, some horses are written off before the race starts and are classed as distant outsiders and they will not have their odds quoted.
The odds for any runners that have not been quoted will be referred to as 'Bar'. It is a term that is difficult to work out if you are not well versed in it.
It is basically the lowest odds of horses or greyhounds that have not been included on the main list for each race. You might see ‘40/1 bar’ and that means the horses not quoted will have odds of 40/1 or larger.
