This term is mainly found in horse racing and it means a horse doesn’t need to win in order for you to win money.

A place is where the horse finishes in the top two or three - depending on how many horses are in the race.

The bigger the race the larger the placings - so some bookmakers could place up to six places in races like the Grand National.
