What is a Combined Bet?

A combination bet is a betting strategy that involves a bet that is made up of a different combination of bets. There is an important distinction to be made between a combination bet and an accumulator bet. A combination bet differs from an accumulator bet because it is made up of multiple bet types such as doubles and triples, as opposed to being a single wager that is made up of many bet selections such as an accumulator bet. Furthermore, an accumulator bet fails if one of your bet selections does not win, whereas a combination bet is successful so long as at least two of your bet types are successful.

Typically you would place the same amount on each bet type when you play a combination bet. As such we now have a better answer to “what is a combined bet?” Examples will be given of how a combination bet works in the world of gambling, which will in turn have the combined bet explained in as much detail as possible.. As such, let's take a look at some of the different bet types of a combined betting strategy.

Types of Combined Bets

There are many types of combination bets to be played when placing a wager, the reason that so many punters use a combined bet is to mitigate their losses and try to increase their winnings. Should you place a single bet on a horse race for example, and your horse loses the race you will lose your whole stake in the bet. On the other hand, should you place two bets on the race and one of them is successful you will have mitigated your losses. This is just one example of a combined bet, we will be touching on the different kinds you are likely to see:

A double: this is where a punter would join two or more selections into a single wager making it into a double.

A treble: whereby the punter would take three selections as a unit.

Four-fold: anything from four to six are called “folds” and mean combining 4, 5 or 6 different bet selections into a unit.

Combined betting becomes slightly more complex after this but if you stick it out this is where the real advantage of this betting strategy shines through.

The Trixie: a combined bet allows for a single, double and treble and higher to be bet on as a group. So in the case of the Trixie the punter would place four wagers on three selections in different events. This would include three doubles and one treble. Should at least two of the wagers succeed the punter will receive a return depending on the odds of the bet.

The Yankee: this type of combined bet allows for four wagers to be covered over eleven different selections. This bet would include six doubles and four trebles. It works much the same way as the others that so long as two of the selections are correct then your return is guaranteed.

As such, there is a very big variety when it comes to the kinds of combined bets you can use. It would be wise to try and start with the smaller bets with less selections to get a feel for how the strategy can benefit you. This gives a more in-depth answer to the question “what is a combined bet?”

Tips on How to Get the Most Out of Your Combined Bet

There are a few things to keep in mind when wagering a combined bet that may aid you. Here are a few tips to help you make smarter decisions when wagering your combined bet:

Play What You Know

Before you even place a combined bet, decide on what sport you feel you have the most adept knowledge in. This is a big advantage in the betting world, and will only aid you in making better decisions when it comes to your combined bet. Once you have a feel for how combined betting works in your favour, then you can start to move to other sports and events. However, start with what you know before you make any moves into different sports.

Use the Statistics Available to You

Use as much data related to the sport you are betting on as possible. Knowledge is power as they say, and this could not be truer of combined betting. When wagering on many different selections you need all the knowledge you can get at your disposal. This will aid you in answering the question “what is a combined bet?”

For example, should you be betting on horse racing you would want to know exactly how a horse has performed previously, how it runs on certain surfaces, if it has any prior injuries or whether the jockey that rides has been successful in the past. Try to become as familiar as possible with these varying factors when you place your combined bet in the future.

Pros and Cons of the Combined Bet

There are certain factors that work both for and against using a combined bet, it is best to know what these are before heading into this type of betting strategy. Here are a few things to remember about combined betting should you decide to use this betting strategy going forward:

Pros of Combined Betting

combination betsThere are certainly a few pros for using the combined betting strategy. First and foremost, when wagering a combined bet the biggest pro is definitely the fact that you do not need all of your selections to be successful in order to receive a return or even a profit.

You do need at least two of your selections to be correct in order to gain your return but this is still better than losing your entire stake for having only one of your selections being incorrect. This is particularly beneficial when it comes to reducing your risk and mitigating your losses.

Cons of Combined Betting

Combined betWhen using so many different betting selections on your bet, it's important to remember that there will naturally be times where you lose. It is only probable, so remember that when using this betting strategy not to be disheartened by the fact that you may lose a few selections.

The only other real con is that it may be difficult to fully achieve success in your combination bet. With so many selections on the betting slip (or even if its only 2 or 3) your chances of being successful in every single one of them is slim. This is largely why the pay-outs can be so high because it is not an easy thing to accomplish.
