On the fifth and final day of Glorious Goodwood, there are Lillie Langtry Stakes betting tips to mull over. This Group 2 contest for fillies and mares over a mile-and-three-quarters. There is 12lb weight for age for three-year-olds, but just one youngster takes on her elders. Get the lowdown on this final Group race of the Qatar Goodwood Festival.
Locally based trainer David Menuisier loves having winners at Goodwood, so Wonderful Tonight makes obvious appeal stepping back up in trip here. A four-year-old Le Harve filly who loves soft ground, further forecast rain and showers are in her favour for this.
Wonderful Tonight comes to Glorious Goodwood after there wasn't enough cut underfoot at Ascot for last Saturday's King George. She should get conditions to suit here. Already a Group 1 winner over the trip in France after landing the Prix de Royallieu on Arc weekend at Longchamp, Wonderful Tonight has since won twice at Ascot.
Those victories came on British Champions Day and then on reappearance in this grade in the Hardwicke Stakes. That is strong form, as the runner-up, third, sixth and seventh have all scored since. Therefore, it's very hard to look past Wonderful Tonight following-up here at 11/10 with Coral en route to the Arc.
It would be no surprise if the re-opposing Hardwicke fifth, Albaflora, went well stepping up in trip. However, Believe In Love has proven distance form in Group races and has won at Goodwood before. That means she could give Wonderful Tonight most to think about.
Trained by Roger Varian, who has already had a winner at the meeting earlier in the week, this four-year-old Make Believe filly steps up in grade. A comfortable winner here over a mile-and-a-half in handicap company on reappearance last season, Believe In Love has progressed into a pattern performer since.
She has won a Group 3 in France on her final start of last season, then left a disappointing reappearance at York behind her at Leopardstown. Believe In Love defied the welter burden of 10st in the Stanerra Stakes in impressive fashion. She looks overpriced, according to our Lillie Langtry Stakes, and a bit of each-way value at 10/1 with Bet365 in this.
The sole three-year-old in the line-up, Divinely gets 15lb from the favourite and that is a great leveller. Trained by Aidan O'Brien, there is evidence that the daughter of Galileo is improving with her racing. Divinely has only won one of her nine career starts, but that doesn't quite tell the full story.
She got a mile as a juvenile, so wanted further this season. After finishing a keeping on fourth and beaten a couple of lengths in the Lingfield Oaks Trial on reappearance, Divinely ran third in the Espom Classic for fillies. Although no match for runaway winner and stable companion Snowfall, she got much closer to that one in the Irish equivalent.
The fast ground at Royal Ascot perhaps didn't suit her when fourth in the Ribblesdale Stakes in-between her Classic outings. As Divinely stayed on into second in the Irish Oaks, the step up in trip is well worth trying here. It also makes the 14/1 with Betfair well worth considering each-way, according to our Lillie Langtry Stakes betting tips this year.
