The League Two 2025/26 season is back from its summer break. Our resident football tipster Nathan Joyes has looked at potential winners, dark horses and the betting odds ahead of yet another hectic schedule.
All eyes are firmly on MK Dons after their Kuwait consortium takeover, who moved quickly to appoint Paul Warne as their head coach. The investment of the new manager and players indicates their wants and needs to get out of League Two as quickly as possible.
That has been reflected in their price which sees MK Dons at 3/1 with bet365 to lift the title come the end of the season - and it’s one that we are firmly behind.
The sheer amount of attacking talent that has been brought in can’t be ignored. In recent days, Callum Paterson has joined after departing Sheffield Wednesday - a huge coup for this level of football.
Alongside Paterson, Aaron Collins has left Bolton having scored 12 goals last campaign, while Rushian Hepburn-Murphy arrives from Crawley having hit double digits in the 24/25 season. These key figures should help push MK Dons up the table - and their aim to reach League One looks likely with a squad built to dominate the division.

Next in line in the betting are Chesterfield and Bristol Rovers. Chesterfield are 7/1 second favourites with Unibet, waiting to pounce if MK Dons fail to deliver. Under Paul Cook, the Spireites finished 7th but will be looking to avoid play-off heartache this time round and achieve automatic promotion.
Chesterfield have managed to keep their two top goalscorers from last season - Will Grigg (12) and Armando Dobra (10) - as well as add forward Lee Bonus from Den Haag after a successful stint in the Netherlands. A front line capable of scoring against most defences in the league is why Cook’s team are well fancied to achieve promotion this time round.
Next up: Bristol Rovers. Priced at 14/1 with Betano, the Pirates are more likely to finish in the play-off spots than challenge either MK Dons or Chesterfield for the title. However, Darrell Clarke’s side will be looking to bounce back to League One at the first time of asking - and why not?
Goalkeeper Luke Southwood has signed from Bolton, while Macauley Southam-Hales’ exit from Stockport County has caught the eye having impressed in League One last campaign. They are just two of eight new players through the door as Clarke looks to reignite his team and quickly return to the third tier of English football.

Ladbrokes have Barnet priced up at 16/1 to win the league - and having dominated the National League last season, many punters believe they can make it back-to-back promotions.
Having won the league with 102 points and having scored 97 goals, Barnet were incredible as they returned to the football league in style. Joe Hugill has been brought in on loan from Man United, Romoney Crichlow-Noble joins from Bradford and Emmanuel Osadebe signs from Forest Green as an influx of new players are ready to play at the Hive this season.
Barnet have been able to hold onto top goalscorer Callum Stead (18) and midfielder Mark Shelton (12) who look capable of performing well at this level too. It would be foolish to write the Bees off achieving a play-off spot at the very least.
