Welcome back racing fans! I have FIVE brand new selections for you to get stuck into for Day 3 of Glorious Goodwood. Before we get started, I’d like to mention firstly that I have weekly recap shows, where I will review all of my selections from the previous week. Head over to my YouTube channel to check that out!
Below are my selections for day 2 and I advise backing a win in a Lucky31, along with an extra single on my NAP bet! Thank you for all of your support so far, and don't forget to check out my socials @gingerjoeracing on Instagram, Twitter, YouTube & Facebook for daily updates!
J: Oisin Murphy / T: Robert Cowell
ISLE OF LISMORE takes my fancy in the final race of the day under Oisin Murphy and I think he is way overpriced at 12/1. He brings some decent form into this and has enjoyed his 3 y-o campaign so far. He could still be ahead of his mark and is likely to enjoy 5 furlongs at Goodwood. Robert Cowell is a specialist over the minimum trip and I would love him to have a winner here this week.
He ran really well on his seasonal debut this year and finished 3rd at Lingfield where he stuck to his task well in the end even though he looked a tricky ride that day. He was then a convincing winner at Catterick next time out on the heavy ground and I think that is the key piece of form he has going into this race. He easily beat EHRMANN who reopposes this time round before backing this up with another win over at Newmarket next time out in a decent event. On his latest run he found the firm ground very much to his disliking but he still finished only 1 ½ lengths behind WHENTHEDEALISDONE who is near the front of the market in this.
I think this race will pan out to suit my selection better though as this is the final race on day 3 and there is likely to be a fair amount of give in the ground and will be borderline heavy come off. This will suit ISLE OF LISMORE who already has really good form on heavy. There's little in between them in the weights again here and there is no reason why he should be the price he is at the moment. 12/1 looks very generous with champ on board!
J: Ben Coen / T: J P Murtagh
OTTOMAN EMPEROR makes the most appeal to me in this one with the Ballydoyle pair potentially being the main dangers. He built on his really good racecourse debut where he was only 2 lengths behind Sir Lamorak which stacks up well. Since then he has gone from strength to strength and won 3 on the bounce since his debut. He has stepped up on each run and got better each time and was a runaway victory on his latest effort who probably hasn't stopped improving yet.
His latest win was at Navan and he had Tazaral behind that day and he beat him comprehensively so deservedly took his chance in this. He has only run on good ground so far, but I think he will handle the softer ground expected and I think it could even bring out more significant improvement in this type. There are a few at the head of the market that are dropping back in trip but I prefer the potential progression OTTOMAN EMPEROR brings into this as he actually gets an extra furlong this time and that is very likely to be to his liking. 8/1 makes for plenty of appeal.
J: Jim Crowley / T: Roger Varian
ALFAADHEL runs in the first race and could get us off to a good start on day 3 of Glorious Goodwood. This is a mightily competitive opener and there's a few you can make a case for including the other two Shadwell horses in the race.
Jim Crowley would have had the choice of the three and he sides with my selection here which probably confirms he is the first string for Hamdan al Maktoum. He has run 4 times and has been really progressive up until his latest effort where he was quite poor with no apparent excuses. He should be much better this time on only his fifth start and has loads of potential improvement so he's the one I'm siding with. The two wins he has had to date were really good and he looked like he'd continue to improve so no reason why he shouldn't be back here putting his best foot forward in this.
He could just have a class edge over a few of this if he turns up on song. He’s a similar type to Anghaam, who bounced back from a poor run last time to win on day 1, so he definitely has possibilities. The danger for me would be TARAASHOQ who was impressive last time, but I am really sweet on my selection in this!
J: William Buick / T: Charles Hills
MAYFAIR STROLL won for me and my followers just over a week ago and I think he has a great chance in backing that up here. He does have a penalty to contest with however he didn't need to be at his best to win last time and looked a class above of those. You can get 9/1 for MAYFAIR STROLL at the moment and that is huge, especially when he is likely to enjoy the soft ground that is due to come.
Before winning easily last time he chased home a really good pair on his penultimate start over shorter and looked really good for the step up to 7 furlongs. I think he is well in here and likely to do better with more improvement on the cards. He did the job for us last week and there's no reason for me to go against him in this. This race shows a few potentially tricky rides but my selection ticks all the boxes and is way overpriced in this.
J: Jamie Spencer / T: Richard Hannon
GUBBASS is my NAP selection for Day 3 and runs in the Richmond Stakes. He has run just the two times and looks like a star in the making. He was good on debut and Hannon made it no secret what he thought of this one and justified those words by winning the super sprint at Newbury just 2 weeks back. He looked to be running with inexperience halfway through but really got going late on and flew at the finish to get up close home.
He must have a massive engine to win in the way he did and I expect another jump forward here. I actually think he should be half the price and will be disappointed if he doesn't get the job done here. It's still early days for him but he clearly has a big future and Hannon knows how to train these youngsters. A real exciting prospect who im getting stuck into at these prices and easily makes it as my NAP selection for Day 3!
