We have just over a week until Royal Ascot gets under way and I have two early betting tips for you that are certain to go off at shorter prices on the day. Both selections represent the Karl Burke yard, which has become a seriously good outfit of late. Karl and his team are finding plenty of improvement from their horses as they transition from two to three-year-olds.
I will have a full list of selections for each day of the Royal Ascot meeting, which is likely to include a few Lucky 15s, some longshots and plenty more besides. But in the interim, I do think it’s worth backing the pair I’ve put up today, because they are sure to come in for some support. I’m keeping it short and sweet today, but there is plenty of good racing this week, so don’t forget to come back again tomorrow for my Thursday selections.
To help cover my two early picks for Royal Ascot, why not take a look at this deal from William Hill?
Bet £10, and you’ll get £30 in free bets. It’s the perfect opportunity to have some ammunition ready for Royal Ascot next week.
My first ante post pick runs in the Commonwealth Cup and this horse was probably the most talked-up Juvenile in Britain before Royal Ascot last year. Just in case you happened to miss out on all the hype last time around, the horse I'm talking about here is Elite Status, who is owned by Sheikh Mohammed Obaid. He was sent off as hot favourite to win the Norfolk Stakes, but clearly under-performed that day, and only managed third place.
He wasn’t any better on his final two starts as a two-year-old either and was easily put in his place by Vandeek, who is also a contender here. However, as three-year-olds, their form seems to have gone completely the other way - Vandeek was very disappointing on his seasonal debut, whereas Elite Status was pure class when winning at Newbury. And off the back of that run alone, I’m willing to give him another chance.
As I’ve already mentioned, Karl Burke has done exceptionally well with training his horses through the difficult transition period between their second and third year, and it looks like Elite Status is all set to be yet another success story.
Elite Status might find the stiffer finish here at Ascot a bit of a challenge, but I feel that he has taken a big enough step forward to cope with it and 7/1 is a cracking price
to back him at this early stage.
My second early selection is another of Karl Burke’s protégés - the cracking Too Darn Hot filly Fallen Angel. She was beaten in the English 1000 Guineas, but came back with a vengeance to win the Irish 1000 Guineas at The Curragh, and that was a seriously impressive performance.
She is a really good traveller and even though she was only four lengths back in the English Guineas, her performance in Ireland was a different thing altogether. Based on that, I think it’s highly likely that she has even more to show us, and I expect her to be seriously tough to beat again here. I believe Fallen Angel is currently the best filly out there over a mile, and it will take a very special sort to stop her. Don’t miss out, her 4/1 price tag won’t last long. .
