The Golden Globes takes place this weekend, marking the first major stop on the road to the 2026 Academy Awards. The Globes has a film’s first significant chance to build momentum heading into the Oscars, with the ceremony’s split categories in several major awards keeping key players apart and allowing them to build momentum.
While some awards, such as Best Picture - Musical or Comedy and Best Actress - Drama, have clear favourites (One Battle After Another at 1/10, and Jessie Buckley at 1/20), there is still plenty of value to be had in some of the markets.
We’ve picked out the following as some of the best Golden Globe bets from top UK bookies you can place ahead of this weekend’s ceremony.
The Best Movie Drama market is the tightest one to call on the night, with Hamnet and Sinners going head to head.
Sinners has been building some serious momentum coming into the show, and it will see The Golden Globes as an excellent chance to kick things into another gear heading into the Academy Awards.
The Hollywood Foreign Press, the voting body behind the Globes, has a habit of being a bit more left-field with their selections, and while Hamnet is no doubt the more ‘awards-friendly’ of the movies, we think that they might opt to give Sinners its flowers this weekend. We would recommend backing Sinners at 13/8 with Betfred.

Another hotly contested race is the Best Motion Picture Non-English Language market. It features three of the year’s biggest awards darlings - The Secret Agent, It Was Just An Accident, and Sentimental Value.
Palme d’Or winners have performed well at award ceremonies in recent years, and It Was Just an Accident appears to have built some momentum coming into the main stretch towards the Academy Awards. While Sentimental Value is one of the most nominated movies at the ceremony, and The Secret Agent has also gained some serious momentum, we are going to back It Was Just An Accident. Not only is it a fantastic movie, but it also allows the Globes to make more of a political statement by supporting Jafar Panahi and his continued stance against the Iranian government.
Tip: It Was Just An Accident to win Best Motion Picture - Non-English Language at 4/6 with Betfred
Following the release of One Battle After Another, it felt like nothing would stop Sean Penn from getting his hands on the Best Supporting Actor Oscar. As the race has heated up, though, his own co-star, Benicio Del Toro, has managed to get ahead of him.
Going into the night, Del Toro has better odds than Penn, sitting at 5/2 with Penn now at 3/1. However, we are backing Stellan Skarsgard to take home the win for his performance in Sentimental Value. Del Toro and Penn are likely to steal votes from one another, allowing Skarsgard, whose performance has been universally acclaimed, to swoop in. He offers excellent value at evens, and we also think this is Sentimental Value’s best chance of a big award on the night.
Tip: Stellan Skarsgard to win Best Actor in a Supporting Role at 1/1 with Betfred
Unlike the Academy, the Golden Globes don’t split their two screenplay categories into original and adapted, which means we will see two of the frontrunners - One Battle After Another, and It Was Just An Accident- go head to head. We are leaning towards the former here, with the movie looking to continue to build on its immense awards momentum heading into the Oscars.
However, if you think that the Globes don’t award It Was Just An Accident with Best Motion Picture Not in the English Language, then they could be worth a shot in this category at 5/2. As it stands, though, we are backing One Battle After Another at 10/11.
Tip: One Battle After Another to win Best Screenplay at 10/11 with Betfred
Like the Best Supporting Actor race, the Best Actress in a Supporting Role race has seen big changes over the last month. One Battle After Another's Teyana Taylor was the heavy favourite for the award until a few weeks ago, when Amy Madigan started picking up some serious momentum for her performance in Weapons.
Weapons has largely gone unnoticed this awards season, but the success of The Substance last year has shown the main awards bodies have softened towards horrors. Still, we are going to go against the bookies on this one and stick with Teyana Taylor. She is currently priced at 5/4, with Madigan at evens. There is little difference between the two, but we think The Globes will be a strong signal of an upcoming Oscar for Taylor. One Battle After Another, while maintaining its momentum in the Best Picture and Director categories, has lost ground in Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor races, but we think Taylor will be the one to buck that trend.
Tip: Teyana Taylor to win Best Actress in a Supporting Role at 5/4 with Betfred
