Big Jumps action to get stuck into!

Hi all and welcome back to my column here on Betting.co.uk. I have three selections for you for Thursday. Two of those, including my very hot NAP, run at the last Jumps meeting of the season at Ffos Las. After that, we’ll be heading off to Uttoxeter for my final pick of the day.

Although all three of these races have pretty small fields, I think I've found some real gems and I’m definitely looking to bag a few winners before the weekend comes around. Talking of which, there is some really good racing action happening this weekend and I’ve already got some decent bets lined up, so keep a look out here for my full preview.

There’s always time for some free bets

It’s not long to go until the weekend, so it’s time for some free bets! Today, courtesy of Bet 365, I have a great offer for you. By betting just £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets! The only reason for not taking advantage of that, is if you already have an account!

15:25 Ffos Las - 3m Handicap Hurdle

There may only be four runners in this 3m Handicap Hurdle, but it still takes a little bit of figuring out, as they are all so closely matched.

Jens Boy @ 10/3 (NAP)

Halifax is currently the 9/4 favourite. He was previously trained by Jonjo O’Neill, but is now in the care of Grace Harris. He won for her on his stable debut, but hasn’t really moved on from there. When he was at Jonjo’s yard, I recall that he showed plenty of ability, but his attitude was a bit all over the place, which sometimes made him his own worst enemy.

Astigar is one that may show improvement for the step up in trip, but hasn’t shown too much spark and I’d want to have seen a little more from him to be confident. Loved Out is in receipt of almost a stone in weight from his rivals and I think he will go very well indeed off that mark, but for me, the one to side with here is Jens Boy, running for Nicky Henderson and piloted by Nico De Boinville.

He is a good traveller and has shown us some really strong finishes, both over this trip, which could really help him here. He’s likely to be hard-pressed coming up the straight, but that’s exactly the point where he seems to dig deep and find more, as witnessed from his wins at both Newton Abbott and Hereford.

He underperformed at Southwell in November, but that was very unlike him and we haven’t seen him since, which suggests there may have been an underlying problem, or a small injury. However, back fresh from a break I imagine Nicky Henderson will have him ready to go first time out. He is 4lb higher for his latest win, but in this sort of tactical battle that shouldn’t affect his chances.

16:20 Uttoxeter - 2m4f Handicap Hurdle

In a similar way to my first selection’s race, there are plenty in here with good chances and it’s quite a tight betting heat.

The Plimsoll Line @ 10/3

Surtitle, running for the Fergal O’Brien team has to have a great chance here after winning at Huntingdon, despite him taking a bit of a keen hold. The 5lb extra he carries as a result of that win is unlikely to stop him improving, but he has always struggled in Handicap company, so potentially, he may get found out again.

Halligator is a very likeable sort and he has a decent chance back at Uttoxeter, having won his Maiden here. Copper Beach is another nice horse, who should also do better for this step up in trip, but I think The Plimsoll Line, running for the Jeremy Scott yard is the one to be on. He is a very honest gelding, who rarely runs a bad race and he was a clear second behind a good winner last time out at Newton Abbot. A repeat performance of that would see him go very close here.

The faster ground should suit him, as he won his Maiden on fast ground at Warwick and backed it up with a good second at Chepstow after that. I really like his Chepstow form as it’s a difficult track to handle, but he did it with style. There’s a few in here that may end up in a bit of a battle for pace, so The Plimsoll Line should be able to just go about his business with no real stress, making him a dangerous contender.

17:05 Ffos Las - 2m4f Handicap Hurdle

Alramz @ 8/1 EW

To cap off the day I have an EW selection for you in Sue Gardner’s Alramz, who only has one win to his name in his thirty-plus starts, but this is a weak contest and it would be no surprise to see significant improvement from him first time out this season, which we’ve seen happen with a few of Sue’s horses in recent times.

His best form seems to come around this time of year and even though his only win came on soft ground, he clearly handles faster ground well enough to make a contest of it and with plenty of question marks surrounding his rivals here, I am going to give him a chance.
