One bet for Haydock on a quiet Thursday

Thursday’s racing doesn’t have too much to offer, which is often the case as we move towards the end of the Flat season. But I have found a decent selection in the Nursery Handicap at Haydock that I think is worth an each way punt.

We certainly haven’t seen the best of this one yet, as he hasn’t exactly been straightforward. However, he has been gelded since his last effort and should take things a little more seriously now. A difficult day of racing, but hopefully we have found a dark horse here who is worthy of a small wager.

Things pick up a bit on Friday, and I will most likely put a Lucky 15 together for you to see if we can pick up a bit of profit. Looking ahead to the weekend we have the Group 1 Sprint Stakes at Haydock, more Group racing at Kempton and a Jumps card at Stratford. 15:10 Haydock - Nursery Handicap 7f - Feeraas

The most interesting race on Thursday is the Nursery Handicap, where there are a few potential improvers. Chuti Manika is an interesting colt who won nicely last time out, but has more to find under a penalty. However, he did very little wrong to win, which suggests to me he doesn’t have tons of improvement left in him. On the other hand, Pietro did plenty wrong last time but still managed to win, leaving me with the impression that there is plenty more to come from him. He is a nice colt who has a fair chance of backing up that latest win.

My only betting tip for Thursday is Archie Watson’s Feeraas, who is still a maiden, having been beaten in all three starts to date. But there are two things to consider here. Firstly, he ran very green, largely because he wasn’t paying sufficient attention. But he has recently been gelded, which could be a big help with that side of things. Secondly, he finished all three of his races closing on the leaders so he clearly has talent, and is bred to do better. He looks to be on a fairly handy mark here, and as this is such an open Handicap I will be taking an each way chance that Feeraas can break his maiden.
