The Group 1 Prince Of Wales’s Stakes is the highlight race for Day 2 of the 2025 Royal Ascot meeting. The race is run over 1m 2f, and this distance is where my betting tip for today has already enjoyed Group 1 success. This horse is my NAP bet for today, and although I think that he should be favourite here, the fact that he isn’t means there is plenty of value in his current price.
Just in case you are new here, I typically post four articles every week. They are usually betting tips, but you’ll also see big race trends, educational guides and antepost tips occasionally. If you look back through my previous articles, you’ll find antepost picks for the 2025 Northumberland Plate, 2026 Cheltenham Festival and the 2026 Grand National. While you still have plenty of time to back these horses, I recommend that you get on at the early prices. Meanwhile, make sure to tune back in for the rest of this week for more Royal Ascot action.
William Hill is offering the joint best price of 4/1 on Anmaat for the Prince Of Wales’s Stakes today. As well as great odds, they also have a generous welcome offer. If you bet £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets. Why not make this epic week an even better one with this great deal?
There are multiple reasons why I think Anmaat can come out on top in this Group 1 and in this article, I’ll be breaking them down for you. By the end of the article, I hope you are in agreement with me that he is a value bet today!
The latest run for Anmaat was his seasonal debut, and it came in the Group 1 Tattersalls Gold Cup over at the Curragh. That was his first run for 218 days, with his last race prior to that being back in the middle of October. Anmaat cruised into the race incredibly smoothly, leading briefly inside the final furlong. However, the lack of a recent run was telling, and he tired towards the finish, costing him the win and he had to settle for second place.
The winner that day was Los Angeles, who was race fit having already won the Group 2 Mooresbridge Stakes over the same C&D earlier that month. For me, the fitness edge was the reason Los Angeles was able to find more towards the line and come out victorious. I strongly believe that if Anmaat had been equally fit, he would have gone past Los Angeles and won going away.
With that recent run under his belt, I think we’ll see a stronger Anmaat at the finish today and one that is capable of reversing the form with Los Angeles. With that horse the one they all have to beat according to the market, I think Anmaat is actually the one to beat!
To date, Anmaat has won two Group 1s. Back in May 2023, he won the Prix d’Ispahan over in Longchamp at the age of five. Interestingly, the re-opposing Facteur Cheval was back in third that day. The other Group 1 victory came in October when he was a “surprise” 40/1 winner of the Qipco Champion Stakes over C&D.
He was incredibly impressive in the Champion Stakes with Calandagan in second, See The Fire in fifth, Kings Gambit back in seventh, with Economics, Los Angeles and Continuous finishing in sixth, ninth, and 10th respectively. While Anmaat’s winning margin of half a length doesn’t look all that impressive at face value, he met tons of trouble in running, but overcame it all to get up, so that performance should be marked up.
We know he acts over this C&D at the highest level and that is a huge advantage to have over his rivals today. The only other course winner in the field is Royal Champion, who also won over C&D. However, that victory was in the Wolferton Stakes (Listed race) and came at the Royal Ascot meeting two years ago. Whilst it was a great victory for Royal Champion, that race isn’t as strong as the Qipco Champion Stakes.
Anmaat’s style of racing is to drop into the rear of the field, and then use his exceptional speed to make a strong late challenge. However, to pull this off, he will need those in front of him to go a strong gallop. If they dawdle in front, it will nullify his strong finish and he’ll find it much harder to reel in the leaders.
However, Continuous is in here to set a strong gallop for Los Angeles, as he did last time out, and he will inadvertently do the same for Anmaat. Certain Lad should also be prominent, and will keep the pressure on Continuous to ensure the gallop is an honest one. It’s a bit of a Catch 22 situation for Aidan O’Brien really, as these tactics give Los Angeles the best chance, but they will also help Anmaat to beat him.
When you consider Anmaat’s victory in the Qipco Champion Stakes, and how he ran last time in the Tattersalls Gold Cup, I really do believe that he will be incredibly tough to beat. However, there are a couple of concerns today. Firstly, he is up against four progressive four-year-olds and it’s hard to know where their ceiling is. There is every chance they will continue to improve and that would put them in the picture along with Anmaat today.
The counter argument is that Anmaat is pretty lightly raced for a seven-year-old and there is no reason to believe he doesn’t still have his best days ahead of him. That said, I do acknowledge that he probably has less improvement to come than the younger horses. I’m also conscious that he would prefer some cut in the ground to be at his happiest and that is not going to happen with the current going Good to Firm, Good in places. They are watering, but it’s likely to just maintain the current conditions and ensure it remains safe ground. That said, he is pretty versatile when it comes to the going, as demonstrated by the three wins and two places he has achieved from his five runs on Good to Firm ground.
On the strength of his C&D win and a strong second place on his seasonal debut, I was tempted to play 2pts on Anmaat. However, with these couple of niggling concerns, I’m going to keep the stake at 1pt. It might not be everybody’s cup of tea, but I’m also making it 1pt each way at 4/1. He should be bang there at the finish, but there is always a chance he could bump into one or two big improvers. Therefore, I’m happy to play each way knowing that I will get 80% of my stake returned if he comes second or third.
