After two winners last week with Whathappensinvegas at 9/1 and Cancan In The Rain at 10/3, we start a new week here. And this is a special one, as we have the York Ebor Festival, and I have a lovely horse to get us started with.
If you’re new to my articles, I typically post four per week here. They are predominantly free daily betting tips, but I also produce guides, big race trends and antepost selections. Given that we have the Ebor Festival this week, all four articles will be daily betting tips covering the big meeting.
If you’re interested in antepost betting, be sure to check out my existing selections. I currently have selections for the York Ebor Handicap on Saturday, the St Leger in September, the King George VI Chase, the 2026 Cheltenham Festival and the 2026 Grand National live on this site. The quicker you back them, the more likely you are to enjoy the best value!
At the time of writing, BetMGM have Dancing In Paris priced up at 11/2, and they are offering a generous four places, whereas some are only paying three. As well as great value on the place terms, they have a great sign up offer for new customers too. If you bet £10, you’ll get £40 of free bets. It’s a great way to keep the momentum going this week.
I’ve been a fan of Dancing In Paris for a long time, and he deserves to win one of these big Handicaps. After knocking on the door a number of times, he’s overdue a big success and hopefully he can land one today. In this article, I’ll break down why I think he is ready to win today.
I tipped Dancing In Paris to my Discord members at Glorious Goodwood, where he ran a cracker, finishing second to the progressive favourite, Sam Hawkens. With a rapidly-improving horse like Sam Hawkens, you never know where their ceiling will be, and that makes them very dangerous. As it turned out, Sam Hawkens still had plenty more in the tank, and landed a hat-trick, which has seen his mark rise from 81 to 95.
Taken at face value, it was a huge run for Dancing In Paris, who was beaten by just half a length. However, I think his performance can be marked up. The horses who came first, third and fourth in the race were all racing prominently, whereas Dancing In Paris had ground to make up from midfield. Meaning it was an even more impressive performance than the bare form suggests. If he had been able to race closer to the pace, he may well have won last time.
When considering this, and the fact he received a 2lb rise, I think he still remains well handicapped. Obviously, it is never great to be raised for not winning, and sadly Dancing In Paris knows that all too well now. He started this season on a mark of 87, and despite not winning in five starts, he is now rated 94, due to running so well in defeat.
Interestingly, Dancing In Paris has only tackled the Knavesmire once before, and he bolted in on that day to win by three and a half lengths. Now, being realistic, that was a Class 4 Handicap off a mark of 75, and today he’s competing in a Class 2 handicap off a mark of 94, which is a completely different kettle of fish. That said, it proves he can perform well at this track.
Another interesting fact is that Saffie Osborne, who takes the ride today, has only partnered Dancing In Paris for two of his runs. However, the results of those runs were a win in August, and the second place last time out. It’s clear that she gets a great tune out of the horse, and I’m pleased to see her back in the saddle for today.
Just as he is unexposed at York, Dancing In Paris is also unexposed over 2m, with just two runs over this trip. The first came in July last year, when he placed fourth at Newbury in a Class 2 Handicap, and the other was his close second in the Northumberland Plate this season. Being just five, and having only two runs over this trip, there is every chance he has plenty of improvement still to come.
As explained when I tipped Whathappensinvegas last week, trainer Ian Williams is currently in great form, and he is also fantastic at targeting valuable races. His current strike rate for August stands at 20%, with 9 out of 45 winners, and 24 out of 45 finishing in the first four places. Over the last two months, he has recorded winnings of £283,743 and £204,259 respectively, and he is operating at a level £1 stakes profit of +£31.58 and +£20.50 respectively.
The reason he is able to boast such strong numbers is because he is fantastic at targeting the most valuable races. Whether that is Racing League action, or even the Shergar Cup, he gets his horses primed for the big money races, and they often deliver. Here we see him entering Dancing In Paris for a £100,000 Handicap and the horse is unlikely to be far away at the finish.
Hopefully, Ian Williams will continue his fantastic run of form here, and Dancing In Paris can add to the ever-growing prize money pot earned by the stable. Interestingly, Ian won this race in 2022 with Alfred Boucher, who went on to finish second in the Ebor Handicap during the same week, earning a massive £141,490 between the two races!
The track, trip, and jockey booking, plus the current form of the horse and his trainer, provide plenty of optimism, and suggest that Dancing In Paris will run a huge race today. So, at an each way price, and with four places on offer, I think he’s well worth playing.
That said, ground this quick brings a slight question mark, his mark is ever-increasing, which may be enough to stop him winning, and he is 0 from 9 in Class 2 company, which is a further concern. That said, he has recorded two second places and three third places in Class 2 company, so he can certainly hold his own.
By comparison, Almuhit has form figures of 112 over his last three races, and has seen his mark raised just 5lb. I know the context of the races contribute to the decision but it must be a bitter pill to swallow for connections.
There are some concerns surrounding Dancing In Paris, and I feel for his connections who have seen his mark rise from 87 to 94 (7lb) since his last win, despite being winless on his six starts. However, I’m limiting today’s bet to half stakes.
