What a brilliant card we have at Ayr this Saturday. Willie Mullins has decided to bring a few runners over in his quest to win the British Trainers' Championship but it’s not going to be easy. Dan Skelton and Paul Nicholls are also in the mix, so the racing this weekend could well determine the winner.
I have three selections for you on this deeply competitive Ayr card and I think we have a really good chance of some weekend profit. All three of my picks look very well-handicapped and I’d be surprised if we don't get a good run for our money. We have a big weekend coming up, but the highlight of the day for me is the Scottish Champion Hurdle and I have a really strong fancy in that race too.
To help you out with a busy betting weekend, William Hill are happy to give you a boost. Bet £10, and you’ll get £30 in free bets. A big day ahead on Saturday, so why not give this a try?
Willie Mullins has his first contender in the opener here at Ayr, where he runs Uncle Phil, who is a very interesting prospect. He is a very nicely bred sort, who looked very promising when he won at Fairyhouse and he could well have more to show us yet. Uncle Phil also comes here fresh, which could be a positive and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him feature.
The one I fancy though is Sans Bruit, who was very impressive at Aintree. I was pretty blown away by how well he travelled and I was even more impressed by how well he jumped. This is a horse who is very much on the up and he’s still way ahead of his Handicap mark. If he turns up in the same form as his last run, then he’s surely good enough to win this.
This year’s renewal of the Scottish Champion Hurdle looks to be very competitive. Rubaud will give this a really good go off top weight, but he is potentially vulnerable to a better-handicapped rival, so I’m going for L’eau Du Sud here.
He ran a huge race in the County Hurdle, finishing just one length behind Absurde and any sort of repeat effort would make him very hard to beat. He is a very strong traveller and I like that for horses running at Ayr. He has shown he has a good turn of foot, which is another big advantage and
he is the best-handicapped horse in the race. I expect a big run from this one.
The Novice Handicap Hurdle is a cracking race and Welcome To Cartries stands out for Paul Nicholls. He has been steadily progressive and looks like he will do well over this extended trip, but I don’t know if he has the finishing speed for this race.
I believe the one to side with here is Major Kingdom for Dan and Harry Skelton. This gelding is in search of his sixth consecutive win, but he has the huge advantage of being bottom weight here. He is a nice mover and I don’t think tactics are going to be too important for him either. He can win from the front, but he can also be ridden from off the pace. So, however this race is run, it will set up really nicely for him.
