Ginger Joe - Betting Tips for Fontwell on Thursday

Fontwell is the place to be on Thursday

We haven’t exactly been blessed with the best Jumps racing this week, but I have two betting tips for Fontwell tomorrow that are well worth a small punt. My first selection heads out for his second try over fences and I think he will take to them much better this time around. I imagine we will know our fate fairly early on, because if he is jumping fluently from the off, then he is likely to run a very big race off his current mark. Meanwhile, my second selection comes in the Bumper, where we have a nice lineup, but I’m banking on my pick having too much class for this field.

14:32 - Handicap Chase 2m 1f - Copper Cove

Oli Greenall’s Dreaming Blue has a very good chance in this Handicap Chase. Although he carries top weight, Freddie Gingell takes 5 lbs off, so he could still be a couple of pounds ahead of the Handicapper. There’s no denying that he sets a pretty decent standard in this field, and could be hard to catch if he goes from the front. However, I do have some concerns. He has generally been running over longer trips, he isn’t the quickest, and I’m not at all convinced the Heavy ground will suit.

For those reasons, I’m going to take a chance on Jonjo O’Neil’s Copper Cove. This is only his second spin over fences, and things didn’t quite go right for him the first time, but he has run well over Hurdles since and I believe that he deserves another chance here. He will really appreciate these soft conditions and provided he jumps just a bit better than he did on his first Chase start, I think he has the potential to go out and win on his second attempt. Dreaming Blue is definitely a big threat here, but I think it’s more than possible that Copper Cover has much more to show us tomorrow.

16:52 - National Hunt Flat Race 1m 6f - Electric Mason

There are some nicely-bred types in this Bumper, but I think Electric Mason is going to be the one to beat here even with a penalty. He ran a great race to finish third on his debut at Ascot, and that form has worked out very nicely since. He then went on to win in good fashion at Kempton and looks like a horse that is just going to continue improving with the experience. Last time out he pretty much made all and when challenged, he found plenty to pull away with. Electric Mason should relish this ground and I think it will take a good performance to get the better of him over this slight drop in trip.
