Ginger Joe - Betting Tips for the 2024 Andalucia Masters

My two selections for this week’s DP World Tour event

This week on the DP World Tour we have the Andalucia Masters at the Real Golf De Sotogrande. This is an event I am really looking forward to and we have a very strong lineup for this year as well. Jon Rahm has opened as favourite to win the event, and rightly so, but from a betting perspective that is way too short for me to get involved with, and the same applies to many of the popular players here. So, for this week’s DPWT review, I have just two selections for you - my best bet for the event, plus a triple-figure longshot that I believe could outplay his odds.

The Real Golf De Sotogrande

The Real Golf De Sotogrande hosts this event for the second year running, and there are a number of key skills needed to win around here. This tree-lined course is a Par 72 over 7101 yards, with some very tricky holes. It features long tees, wide fairways and raised greens which play very fast. There are around 100 bunkers on the course, with the majority placed in the vicinity of the greens, so players need accuracy right from tee to green.

All of that means there are a number of attributes to look out for this week. You want consistent, solid ball strikers who can hit accurately, but you also want players that have a really strong short game and are capable of compensating for the sheer speed of the greens here. Basically, players that attack all the way from tee to green are the only ones who will do well, as the scoring is sure to be quite low. But whatever happens, we look all set for a highly entertaining week on the DP World Tour.

Rasmus Hojgaard @ 16/1

My best betting tip for the 2024 Andalucia Masters is Danish superstar Rasmus Hojgaard. He is a five-time winner on the DPWT and I think he is ready to add another title to his resume. The Real Golf De Sotogrande is a course that requires solid, accurate ball striking, but also a decent short game. Rasmus is certainly consistent in that first area, and his short game has improved a ton this season, so this course should be ideal for him.

He has been in very good form in his recent tournaments too. During the last few weeks he has achieved a third place in the British Masters, backing that up with a win in the Irish Open two weeks later, and has continued to play well since. He currently stands at world number 63, and will no doubt end up playing on the PGA Tour in the near future, but he still has opportunities open for further DP World Tour success, and he looks tailor made for this golf course. He is a very good and consistent player, and I’ll be rather disappointed if he doesn’t get very competitive here.

Alejandro Del Ray @ 125/1

My longshot for this event is Alejandro Del Ray. He is a player with a serious amount of talent when he brings his best game, and one who likes to go on an all-out attack. And frankly, with some class names in the field this week, that is the best chance anyone can have of getting into the places. He was playing really good golf at the beginning of the year, before going through a bit of a purple patch, but I think he has shown a return to form in recent weeks.

He has had multiple top 20 finishes this season, he is playing in his home country, and he is one of the only members of the DP World Tour that has shot a 59. So, with a return to form in evidence, I am willing to give him a chance this week. I honestly think that if he starts well here, he will maintain it as the tournament goes on. It can only go one of two ways for Alejandro Del Ray, but at 125/1, I certainly think he is worth a small punt.
