On the DP World Tour this week we have one of the signature events of the season - the 2024 BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
Last year’s winner, Ryan Fox, is back to defend his title. Although he hasn’t been in the best form this season, he could bounce back to his best at a course he likes, and may not be too far away by the final round on Sunday. However, repeating a win at Wentworth is a rare thing, so I will be taking him on this week.
My main selections for last week's Irish Open were unable to land a real blow, but Dan Brown from my longshot picks managed fourth place at 125/1, to make it a profitable week overall.
With great prices, ten places and a free bet deal Ladbrokes gets the thumbs up from me this week.

The DP World Tour heads to Wentworth for the 2024 BMW PGA Championship this week. This tremendous venue has hosted the tournament since 1984, and it takes a really good player to win this event. The course is a Par 72, stretching over 7267 yards, and it requires a wide range of skills to get around with a good score. The players will need to bring their very best golf game to get on the leaderboard here.
As this event has been held on the same course for many years now, in terms of stats, we can look back at trends from previous years. Based on those, players who have gained shots from tee to green generally perform the best in this particular tournament. Winners in the past few years who fit the bill include Ryan Fox, Tyrell Hatton and Shane Lowry. So it makes perfect sense to look for players who excel in that direction for this year’s event too. Naturally, an all-round solid player is the ideal, but for stat lovers, tee to green gained shots is where you need to start.
My first selection is Englishman Laurie Canter, who made his DP World Tour breakthrough this year with a win in the European Open. He is a very good player from tee to green, which is an attribute I like for Wentworth, and he has become very reliable on the greens too. He may not be as naturally gifted as the likes of Mcilroy, Fleetwood and a few of the other market leaders, but he is quickly developing into a top class player.
He has played very well on some difficult courses this season, and looks particularly well-suited to Wentworth. He will need to get off to a good start, but
he seems to do fine under pressure, and the fact he has been so consistent this season is a big plus. If he turns up in near best form this week I think Laurie Carter has every chance of adding the BMW Championship to his resume.
My next pick is
Matteo Manassero, who is one of my favourite players on Tour. He has won a total of five times on the DP World Tour, including a win in the Jonsson Workwear Open this March. Since then, he has continued to thrive in the big events, clocking up five Top 10s and finishing third in last week's Irish Open.
He is definitely playing at his best this season.
Matteo Manassero should go out and put on another big performance this week too. He is seriously good from tee to green, and he has all the credentials needed to put up some good scores here at Wentworth. He is a good ball striker, good off the tee, consistent with his irons, and he also has a very good short game to go with it. All things considered, he is spot-on for a crack at the BMW Championship this week, and at 28/1, I think he is a very good bet.
