The DP World Tour returns this week after being off the schedule for almost a month, and what a fantastic event we have ahead. The D+D Czech Masters is back and we have a new venue for this year's contest as the Tour heads to the PGA National OAKS course in Prague for the very first time.
I have taken a very close look at this new course and I think we are in for an absolute treat. Overall, there’s a really strong lineup for this week’s event, but I have two players in mind who look better-suited to this challenging course than most. With all of the players coming here fresh from a long break, there will be no excuse for a poor performance and it’s definitely worth checking out my two longshots as well as my main selections for this week.
With an excellent new venue and a whole bunch of fresh players, what a great time to make use of some free bets courtesy of BetVictor. If you bet £5, you’ll get £30 in free bets. What a fantastic offer for a fantastic event.
The DP World Tour heads off to a new venue for the 2024 edition of the D+D Czech Masters. This year the event will be hosted by the PGA National OAKS resort in Prague. This course is 7,592 yards long and the set up is just superb, requiring accuracy off the tee to hit the fairways. The greens themselves are surrounded by bunkers making it vital to have a good iron player on side this week.
The greens might appear quite large, but don’t be fooled, the angle of attack from the fairways actually makes them play quite narrow. That’s why I’m putting a lot of emphasis on good ball strikers and solid iron players this week. Ball flight is something I usually find quite important, but not so much this week. I want players with a soft shot shape and consistency, which will give them the best opportunity at making birdie. This course looks set up to bring us a really cracking event in the week ahead.
My first choice this week is the incredibly talented Ryo Hisatsune, who has done nothing but improve year by year. He tends to go under the radar in these events, despite having won on the DP World Tour previously. He has also made quite an impact on the PGA Tour, with three top 10s and 17 cuts made in the 26 events he has played. Ryo is finally starting to get the recognition he deserves, as you can tell by his 25/1 price tag.
Unlike many other players, who have been away from competitive golf for four weeks, Ryo has kept himself busy. He has just finished the Wyndham Championship on the PGA Tour, where he finished in a tie for third on a pretty tough golf course. I imagine he will take to this week’s course very well too and doesn’t seem to have a weakness in his game. He is one of the most consistent ball strikers you will find on Tour, he is plenty long off the tee, and his short game has continued to improve as he has progressed through the ranks.
Ryo Hisatsune is just inside the top 100 in the world now and he is a player you are going to hear a lot more about in the coming months. He is easily my number one selection for this event.
Selection number two is Joe Dean. He is relatively inexperienced as far as the DP World Tour goes, but he is improving consistently and we are seeing nearer the top of the leaderboard on a much more regular basis of late. On paper, Joe Dean seems to suit this course very well. He is an effortlessly long hitter of the ball, and the best part of his game is his iron play - a very likeable attribute for this event.
I have a preference for players that went well at the KLM Open and Joe Dean forced a playoff there against the eventual winner Guido Migliozzi. The experience he has gained this season will really help him here and I think he will thrive around this course. Joe Dean is up to world number 211 now and I think he could be ready to win his first Tour event.
