The final event of the 2024 DP World Tour is the Championship tournament, which is set to take place at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai. The event is open to the top 50 players in the Race To Dubai rankings and there is a whopping $7.5 million in prize money to be won. Rory Mcilroy currently heads the rankings, and also the betting for this week’s tournament, at a price of 4/1. But despite his obvious credentials, there are players in this field who offer much better value.
For last week’s golf betting tips, I put up Tommy Fleetwood and Matt Wallace, who both managed to finish in the places at the Abu Dhabi Championship. This week I fully intend to go one better and seek out the winner of the 2024 DP World Tour Championship.
You really can’t go wrong with William Hill this week. They have great prices, six places on show for this grand event, and also an awesome new customer deal. If you
bet £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets. With my longshot picks still to come, why not?
The Jumeirah Golf Estates Earth Course plays host to the 2024 DPWT season finale, and what a way to end it. The course is a Par 72, which stretches to 7675 yards and is set up to force the longer hitters to attack the course. It has a unique combination of achievable Par 4s and long Par 5s, with the back nine holes being the trickiest, as there are two Par 5s that stretch in excess of 600 yards.
Regarding which players will suit this golf course, history tells us it sets up well for those that fade the ball, and that is certainly an aspect I have been looking for to make my selections for this week. There isn’t necessarily anything wrong with hitting a draw, but hitting greens in regulation is absolutely vital around the Earth course, and will also lead to more birdie opportunities. I cannot wait for this huge event to get underway, and we are in for something truly special to close out the 2024 DPWT season.
Selection number one for the DP World Tour Championship is Billy Horschel. A player who has all the credentials necessary to play well here. He hits a nice fade, which is a shot I really like around the Earth course, and he is a player bursting with talent. He has played some amazing golf this season, with the highlight being the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, where he eventually beat Rory Mcilroy and Thriston Lawrence in a nail-biting play off.
Billy Horschel is definitely worth a shout here. He absolutely thrives in these bigger events, and with this course perfectly set up for his style of play, he has an outstanding chance of success.
He isn’t the longest hitter, but I don’t mind that too much, as his accuracy can counteract most things and he is one of the most consistent scorers in this field. The players who are currently heading the market have obvious chances, but looking beyond those, Billy Horschel is the one with all the winning credentials here.
The second player on my list is Thriston Lawrence. He has very similar credentials to Billy Horschel, but can hit the ball a little further, which could easily see him gaining an advantage on this particular course. He is a player who has been largely consistent, and is now a four-time winner on the DP World Tour. There's also no denying that Thriston is another player who appears to shine when he plays in these big events.
He finished second behind Billy Horschel at Wentworth, after making the playoff. Then last week he finished tied for sixth place in the Abu Dhabi Championship. Not only is Thriston Lawrence plenty long off the tee, but he hits a really consistent approach shot, and his short game has been superb all year. I think he has every chance of finishing a fine season with a victory in the final 2024 DPWT tournament, and at a very juicy price too.
