Ginger Joe - Betting Tips for the Open De France

The DP World Tour is off to France

This week the DPWT heads to Le Golf National for the Open De France. Last year I tipped the winner of this event, with Ryo Hisatsune taking the honours, but he is predominantly playing on the PGA Tour now and won't be here this week. There are a few standout names in this lineup, with recent winners Billy Hirschel and Matt Wallace heading the market. Both are sure to enjoy this golf course, but they are very short in the market.

The course here at Le Golf National is very much a ball strikers’ course and players who are consistent in that department are likely to do best here. There are a fair few who came under consideration, but I am more than happy with my selections for this week and hopefully we can have a profitable week in France.

I have changed things a little bit just for this week, by combining my betting tips into a single post, but we should revert to normal for the next DPWT event. Incidentally, my longshots played really well last week, with Dan Hillier finishing in a tie for 25th, and Tom Vaillant finishing in the places with a tied seventh finish, so hopefully we can follow suit.

Thriston Lawrence @ 20/1 (EW 6 places)

Thriston Lawrence is very popular on the DP World Tour, and as a four-time winner he is likely to get his PGA Tour card very soon. Of course, he still has time to add more titles to his resume before that happens at the end of the season. For this week’s event you want strong ball strikers and Thriston certainly ticks that box.

In fact, he is an exceptionally consistent striker who fades the ball, which I like for this golf course, and his short game has been very solid in recent weeks too. On paper, this course suits Thriston Lawrence and he ticks more boxes here than most in the lineup. He is a reliably consistent ball striker, he can fade beautifully and he has a good short game. What’s not to like? Thriston Lawrence is easily my number one selection this week.

Matt Wallace @ 14/1 (EW 6 places)

My second pick is European Masters Champion Matt Wallace. He is a five-time DP World Tour winner who lost his game for a few seasons, but he is back in fine form again this year. He has made it abundantly clear that he wants to make the Ryder Cup team for next season, and he is certainly going about things in the right way.

Le Golf National is a golf course that should suit Matt Wallace really well, and his ability to score low on a consistent basis very much goes in his favour. He is another excellent ball striker, who has improved from tee to green and this event brings a huge opportunity for him to add another win to his resume this season. Matt is the only other player in the lineup who is as well-suited to this golf course, and I’ll be disappointed if he doesn’t get heavily involved this week.

Casey Jarvis @ 200/1 (Longshot)

This week’s longshot pick is the very talented South African Casey Jarvis, who is more than capable of mixing it with the best players on Tour, and he could just be going under the radar this week. He is a tremendously good ball striker and despite the fact that he didn’t play too well during the early part of the season, he has been much more consistent just lately.

He is a player that is sure to get a breakthrough on the DP World Tour sooner or later, and on a course that demands good ball strikers, he could be worth a small punt. Casey Jarvis is a very attacking golfer and when he gets himself into contention in an event, he has no problem maintaining his charge in the final round. He is a player we are going to hear much more of in the future, and at 200/1, now could be a great time to catch him.
