Racing Fans we have some cracking action tomorrow at Kempton, but I am going to focus on the Grade 2 Adonis Hurdle, and also the Grade 2 Pendil Novices Chase. Here, I’ll bring you a short preview and my best bet from both.
We haven’t got long until Cheltenham, and over the next coming weeks I’ll be doing some race-by-race previews with my early thoughts and we have also finally managed to pinpoint a date for my full Cheltenham Festival preview, which will go live on Friday 8 March. Make sure you stay tuned for that, as there will be plenty of winners coming your way. But for now, it’s over to Kempton.
Coral are our race sponsors for Kempton today and the have a great welcome offer for new customers too. Check out their bet £5, get £20 in free bets offer. If you don’t already have an account there, this offer is well worth grabbing.
The Adonis Hurdle is always an interesting race to observe, because a lot of fast-improving Juveniles line up, and the form tends to work out well for those that run a good race here. This year’s favourite is Kalif Du Berlais, for the Paul Nicholls team, who comes with a fine reputation after winning on his only start in France. He proved his class by winning on debut for Nicholls here at Kempton over course and distance. He is a very likeable type and probably one that is just going to keep improving all season on the basis of that first run.
Givemefive represents the Harry Derham team. Harry has taken to training very well indeed, he was once assistant trainer to Paul Nicholls, and he is enjoying a fine season since going solo. Givemefive clearly has a very nice engine. This fella was bought after winning a Handicap on the Flat in Ireland and has since gone on to win both of his two starts over Hurdles at Market Rasen and Warwick.
Peking Opera is another very nice horse, who represents the Gary Moore team and he finished fourth in the Irish Derby, so we know he has ability. He made a winning start for new connections at Sandown earlier in the month and has the potential to do better still, but he will need to sharpen up his jumping to win here.
I think the one to take a chance on here is Captain Marvellous. He was devastatingly impressive last time out over course and distance, and by the home turn the race was put to bed. The form doesn’t look the strongest from that, but he could only beat what was put in front of him and he looks like he could be anything. At 6/1 I would take a chance on him each way.
I’ve found this Novices’ Chase a little tricky to figure out, because I don’t know what to think of the current favourite, Tahmuras. He is clearly a good animal, but he makes things really difficult for himself, which makes me wary about his chances here. But that said, he is still a Novice so the penny could drop at any time, but I don’t think that’s going to happen here.
Blow Your Wad, for Tom Lacey, is a nice horse that has plenty of scope and in this field, he is the most solid contender. He travels and he jumps well, but I can still see him finding one too good here. Arclight is a nice mare who is bidding to make it four wins in a row and she receives weight all round here, so she has to come into the equation.
But I’ve been most impressed by Le Patron this term. He has just got better and better with each run, and his fourth in the Scilly Isles can easily be forgiven too, as he didn’t quite get the run of the race early on. However, he bounced right back to form at Sandown on his penultimate start, his Grade 1 form looks solid and at 9/2 he’s a decent bet.
