Welcome back everyone. This week I’m bringing you my best betting tips for a much-awaited DP World Tour event - the KLM Open - which will take place at The International Golf Club in the Netherlands. This is an event I have been looking forward to all season and I have two players lined up who are certain to give us a really good run for our money.
Last year I tipped the winner, Pablo Larrazabal, at 55/1 and he is here to try for back to back wins in the event, but the players are contesting at a different course this time around. He isn’t without a chance, but the change of venue also changes my selection process, so he doesn’t figure for this renewal.
The International Golf Club is widely known as the best course in the Netherlands and it is a proper test of golf from tee to green, meaning you need a player that does pretty much everything well to win this week. It’s also noteworthy that we have some PGA Tour card holders taking part in this week’s event, with Luke List, Matt Wallace and Rasmus Hojgaard all set to tee it up on the International course. But I don’t think any of them will be lifting this year's trophy.
Lastly, I have some great news for you. Last week’s longshot picks for the US Open were a huge success, and better still, Matthieu Pavon did us proud with his 400/1 fourth place finish. So, starting this week I will be bringing you a selection of longshot tips, alongside my regular golf betting tips. We’ve had plenty of big odds placers, in the past, and I hope to find you plenty more in the future too.
We have a really good event ahead of us this week and William Hill has an offer you won’t want to miss out on.
Bet £10, and you’ll get £30 in free bets. If you are having a punt on this week’s golf anyway, why not get a helping hand with your bets?
The DP World Tour returns for the KLM Open over at the International Golf Club in the Netherlands. The last time the event was played here was back in 2019, where Sergio Garcia was the winner. The International is generally acknowledged as being the #1 golf course in the Netherlands and it really does have a bit of everything.
The course is a Par 69 over 6914 yards with just four Par 5s and it’s one of the toughest courses that players will contest during the DP World Tour season. It has a wide mix of hole types, with doglegs, blind second shots, a lot of water and bunkers, plus well-designed raised greens. This isn’t a course that you can win at with just one or two strong attributes either - the players who do best here generally have an all-round skill set.
But if I was forced to pick a stat to focus on, it would be the ability to hit greens in regulation from 170 yards. Having a controlled ball flight also comes in useful, because the greens here are at different heights throughout the 18 holes, so control is crucial to keep those shots hitting the greens consistently, and a bit of skill with a putter won’t go amiss either.
My top betting tip for this week’s KLM Open is Romain Langasque, who has been in decent form this season and could be ready to get a second DP World Tour title under his belt. He has played well for the majority of the season and his form from the Soudal Open and the ISPS Handa Championship bodes really well for him this week.
He is a player that handles a variety of courses and this type of accuracy-based track seems to suit him best. He has the ability to shoot some really low scores and his wedge game seems to be getting better than ever. In addition, his iron play has improved considerably of late, and he has a nice ball flight which will suit this course admirably.
We have a fair bit of strength in this field, but perhaps not a lot of depth and the experience Romain has on the DP World Tour makes him a big danger
to the field this week.
I’m also taking a chance on Adrian Otaegui this week. He has enjoyed a very similar season to Romain Langasque, in the sense that he has played well in the right events, which gives him a very good chance this week. He played well in the Soudal Open, he played well in the ISPS Handa Championship, and he has been consistently shooting scores under par on accuracy-based courses. And as a five-time winner on the DP World Tour, he must surely come into the equation this week.
He has been known to hit a few loose shots off the tee, but he is very accurate with his irons and he won't need a driver for every hole this week, so he may just get away with that part. I also like the fact he is an attacking player with his mid irons, as he will be hitting plenty of those this week. I have been a little cautious about backing Adrian Otaegui in recent months, but this track looks like it will suit him very nicely. Not only does he look promising as the outright winner here, I think that he’s a really good shout for first round leader too.
