For this week’s golf betting tips, I’ve taken a close look at the European Open. Considered one of the most prestigious events on the DP World Tour event, the action takes place at the Green Eagle Golf Course, which has a reputation for being the toughest golf course in Germany. Whatever happens, it promises to be a fantastic event and I have two really strong selections for you. Both of them are well-suited to the course and I think they’ll do us proud.
My bookie pick for this week’s golf is the evergreen William Hill, and they have a great offer available for anyone who doesn’t already have an account. If you
bet £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets. With great odds and six places for the European Open - what are you waiting for?
The Green Eagle Golf Course is a Par 73 over 7882 yards, which has no less than six Par 5s across the 18 holes. That should make it a really good low scoring event, and there are a host of risk and reward holes here too. The track is best-suited to the longer hitters around here, and they are the players I I have focused on this week.
I’ve also been on the lookout for any players who are known for scoring well on Par 5s. It’s clearly a big advantage this week, because bogeys on these Par 5s will feel like dropped shots against the field. One particular thing you need here is players who have a good level of strokes gained in approach play, because those that aren’t long off the tee will still be able to compete if their approach play is on point.
My strongest selection of the week by far is Richard Mansell who couldn’t be better suited to this track if he tried. He has been progressing nicely over the past couple of seasons and is getting so close to his maiden victory now. If you were following my articles a few months back, I mentioned that Richard Mansell would be an early selection for the Scandinavian Mixed event, which is next week, but the nearer we get to the European Open event, the more I like him for this one.
The Scandinavian Mixed is 18 holes, but they are all Par 4s and it has become clear that Richard scores at his best on Par 5s, and this week, there are six. So
this course looks ideal for him and I would be very surprised if he wasn’t at the top of the leaderboard by the end of this weekend
the top. He will need to play well of course, but he is finding his form, and he is fifth in the Par 5 scoring average on Tour. He ticks all of my boxes at 28/1 this week.
Although Thriston Lawrence has been slightly out of form in recent months, he is starting to find his form again and the 40/1 on offer is an obscene price for his skill level. He is a fantastic ball striker, and like Richard Mansell, he clearly scores best on courses with plenty of Par 5s, so he is really well suited to the track on that front.
In my opinion, he has become one of the best players on the DP World Tour, and sits just outside the top 100 in the world rankings. He put on a decent performance in last week’s Soudal Open, playing exceptionally well at certain points, and he seems to be overcoming the run of poor form we’ve seen recently. I expect him to be right in the mix again this week, and he is definitely worth a second look.
