The DP World Tour heads to Belgium for the Soudal Open

We have just seen the second Major of the year, where Xander Schauffele put on a superb performance in the US PGA Championship and finally broke his maiden. Unfortunately it didn’t go quite so sweetly for my selections, but this week we have the return of the DP World Tour to look forward to. This week’s event is the Soudal Open, which is held at the Rinkven Golf Club in Belgium. It’s a brilliant golf course, which is largely iron-dominated and the small greens make this a seriously tough test.

I have put up three betting tips for you and by sheer coincidence, they all come from Italy. All three selections come at huge prices, so we have a really nice spread of big value, which hopefully will pay off for us.

Soudal Open - Rinkven International Golf Club

This week the DP World Tour heads to Belgium for the Soudal Open, which is hosted by the Rinkven International Golf Club and this is a brilliant event to watch. The course is a 6940 yard Par 71, with just two Par 5s over the 18 holes and is generally an approach play-dominated course. As well as having good approach play, you also need a player that scrambles well, because getting up and down round here isn’t as straightforward as it might seem, especially with the conditions likely to be quite fast on the greens.

Last year's winner, Simon Forsstrom, is back to try and retain his title and you can get 125/1 on him, which isn’t the worst price out there, especially when you consider he comes into this year's event off the back of two good efforts in the Indian Open and the Singapore Classic. I won't be backing him myself, but it would be no surprise to see him put up a very respectable effort in a bid for a repeat win. Whoever does win this is going to be high up on the list for strokes gained on approach, or high up on the scrambles list. The greens are small on this course, so a consistent shot shaper would work nicely too. It’s an all-round tricky puzzle at Rinkven this week.

Guido Migliozzi @ 55/1

The first player in my squad this week is Guido Migliozzi, who has been trending in the right direction in recent months and I think he will be back in the winners enclosure soon. He has the game of a top 100 player when he is firing, and even though we haven’t seen prime Guido in a year or more, he returned to peak form in the China Open on his last start,where he finished second with a round of 65 followed by two 67s.

It wasn’t just his scoring that was impressive, his course management was also right on point, and his iron swing was pure all week long - an attribute that has me really on Guido’s side this week. His putting is decent enough and with his confidence on a high, I think now could be the time for him to get back in the winner’s enclosure.

Matteo Manassero @ 110/1

Selection number two is Matteo Manassero, a player who is right back on form and this iron-dominated course should suit him really well. His short game has been excellent recently and the fact he has managed to come back from being right off his game to winning on Tour this season is really impressive. Tee to green he has been solid, but his wedge game is fantastic and that is a valuable asset on this course, where you may need to scramble a few times to save your par.

Matteo is another player that takes a lot of stopping once he gets on a roll, and he has just had a solid week in the US Open qualifying event finishing 10th in the finals, so he is in good form and I really fancy his chances this week at a massive triple-figure price.

Francesco Laporta @ 250/1

Without meaning to, I’m keeping up the theme of Italian golfers here and Francesco Laporta is my longshot of the week. He goes under the radar, but always plays well at this sort of iron-dominated course. He is very highly ranked in the stats department, with his irons and approach play, and although he isn’t the longest hitter off the tee, you don’t really need to be around here, it’s all about approach play and the short game.

He is ranked in the Top 30 for strokes gained on approach, which isn’t a stat I consider too often, but it really could bode well for Francesco Laporta if he brings his best game this week, and now is the time to catch him, at a ridiculously big price of 250/1.
