Welcome back golfing fans. As you know, I usually focus on the DP World Tour for my golf betting tips, but this week I’m opting for the PGA Tour instead. Here we have the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield, which is always a brilliant event to watch. Last year’s winner, Viktor Hovland, is back to try and retain his crown. Although he went right off form at one stage, he is starting to find his feet again and it would be no surprise to me if he was to get in the mix this week. Scottie Scheffler is also back in action at Muirfield, but at 3/1 in a highly competitive field, I certainly won’t be backing him when there is better value on offer elsewhere.
Also, don't forget that we have the third Major of the year coming up next week, which is the US Open, and I will have a full preview coming your way for that, so keep your eyes peeled.
For this week’s golf betting tips, I’m recommending Bet365, who have also been kind enough to provide us with a sign up offer. If you
bet £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets. With the best price and place terms out there this week, why not give it a go?
The PGA Tour returns to Muirfield Golf Club for this week’s Memorial Tournament, and it is truly one of my favourite events on the PGA circuit. This is a Par 72 over 7569 yards, and it’s an incredibly testing course. It features some extremely tricky rough, very well-placed bunkers and the attack angle to the greens can be rather shallow too, making it very difficult to shoot low scores round here.
For those that are interested in stats, I would be looking at players that scramble well, There will be plenty of greens missed and the players who are getting up and down well this week will not lose shots around the green. I have picked two ideal players for this week’s event and hopefully they will show the rest of the field how it should be done round here.
My first selection this week is world number four Wyndham Clark. I really like players that fade the ball for the Memorial, a skill that Wyndham definitely possesses. Also, the approach shots here definitely suit those that hit the ball left to right, and he gets plenty of spin too. You will find this week a lot of players will hit shots into the greens, but because of the angles, spin is essential to keep the ball on the surface and again, Wyndham Clark fits the bill.
A lot of tipsters this week won't like the idea of backing Wyndham because he was out of form in his last two tournaments. However, he is already a two-time winner on Tour, which includes last year's US Open, and form comes and goes very quickly in golf, so the 45/1 available is an obscene price for the world number four.
I think Wyndham has a huge chance here and his recent form doesn’t concern me too much at all. With his style of play ideally suited to Muirfield, I’m more than willing willing to give Wyndham a chance this week.
Next up we have Denny McCarthy, who has a massive shout in the US Open next week, but I think Muirfield suits him really well too. He hits a pretty neutral ball flight but, he also has a lovely soft fade, so that’s his first box ticked. I also mentioned earlier that you will need a player who scrambles well and Denny McCarthy is one of the best on that front.
His putting is off the charts, and at a course where birdies are hard to find, that is another huge plus point for him this week, and one that will surely give him a slight edge on a few of these holes. I’m positive that Denny McCarthy's first win on Tour is just around the corner, and even though I’ve already backed him ante post for next week's US Open, I think he has a massive chance here too.
