It’s time for the final golf event of the calendar year, as the DP World Tour heads to Heritage La Reserve Golf Club for the Mauritius Open. This is always a fantastic event and the golf course is set up very well with fast greens and it always makes for an entertaining watch. We will have a closer look at the course and my best bets for the event shortly, but first of all just a quick update to what I have coming up before the end of the year.
I will be dropping a video with an each way Lucky 15 for the four Majors during the 2024 season and there will be an article to go with that, which I will post here. Alongside that, I am also going to drop some extra content in my Discord group chat, where I’ll give you a professional insight on how I make my golf selections, together with a ‘Players to Watch in 2024’ list.
With the Mauritius Open in mind, you might just want to give this bet £10, get £30 in free bets offer a whirl. It comes courtesy of my friends at William Hill, who invariably offer fantastic place and price terms for all golf events.
For the final event of 2023, the DP World Tour heads to Heritage La Reserve Golf Club for the Mauritius Open, in what looks to be quite an open looking field. The course is a Par 72 over 7,111 yards and it has four very scorable Par 5s for players to chase. Having a good look at the course, players who can hit a soft draw off the tee with a driver may well benefit for four or five of the holes here, as some of the fairways go that way and it really does shorten up some of the approach shots.
Accurate iron play is always important, but the greens are quite big here and even the short putts are quite difficult. So what you are looking for this week is a player who can make a good drive off the tee and hits a draw. Rasmus Hojgaard’s win here in 2019 was a prime example of a player taking advantage of his shot shape.
My first selection is Sebastian Soderberg, who possesses one of the best golf swings on the DP World Tour and everything seems lined up for him to have a big week here. He plays with a soft draw right off the tee, which should give him an advantage over those who hit a fade.
Even though he isn’t overly long off the tee, he is long enough for it to become an advantage round this course. Sebastian’s iron skills have come on a ton and he has become a much more consistent player, with a lower score average, as a result. I see a big chance for Sebastian Soderberg to pick up his second DP World Tour title here.
Matt Baldwin is selection number two. Like Soderberg, he is another really solid ball striker, making him the type of player that will have a really good chance of success this week. Matt is a very versatile player who likes to move the ball left and right when he plays and this opens up the opportunity for him to outplay his odds here.
Matt is already a DP World Tour winner, so he knows how to get the job done and he played well enough in the Alfred Dunhill last week to finish in a tie for 15th despite starting with a poor opening round of 74. The 60/1 on offer is plenty of value for a player that I think is spot on for this course.
