With the Jumps season now back in full flow, I have two selections for Thursday's racing at Carlisle and hope to have some much stronger selections for you as the week draws to a close.
While we are on the subject of Carlisle, there is one particularly notable entry in the Novices’ Hurdle at 15:00. This is the race where Constitution Hill’s half-brother, Land Genie, will be making his Hurdles debut, so all eyes (including mine) will be on him.
With the Jumps season hotting up by the day, you might want to take advantage of this new customer sign up offer courtesy of William Hill. If you bet £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets to make use of however you want.
My two selections for Carlisle come from Lucinda Russell’s yard. The anticipated good ground is perfect for both of these runners on their seasonal debuts and I am positive that they will be ready to go first time out. I’m advising both as win singles only.
The Handicap Chase here is very competitive, but Snake Roll is a horse that I have been looking forward to seeing over a fence and he has been ready to go for a few weeks now. He has had two previous entries, but was pulled out on both occasions due to unsuitably fast ground.
He finally gets that little bit of cut in the ground at Carlisle and I think he could improve a ton on his form from last season. He is a really nice traveller, who is straightforward and he won't need to improve much to get seriously involved here. I know the stable thinks a lot of this gelding and I’m sure he will be hard to beat first time out now he has the optimum conditions.
This three-mile Handicap Chase is a difficult one to dissect because there are plenty of nice types in the race. I think The Kniphand has to make the conversation on this faster ground and the Twiston-Davies team are in really good form at the minute. He will improve this season and whilst he has the fast conditions, he is a danger here. Mexico is another that I think will improve this season and he showed plenty last season.
However, my selection is Your Own Story, another from the Lucinda Russell team. This is a horse I really like and although he looked like a big baby last year, he was still very effective in some decent races. As with Snake Roll earlier on in the day, we could see a different animal coming out this season. I’m confident that Lucinda will have her horses well-prepped and I think Your Own Story has a lot to offer.
