We have a cracking weekend of racing ahead and it all starts at Down Royal on Friday. I have got two betting tips to kickstart the weekend, with my first selection coming in the Mares Novices’ Hurdle. There is a fantastic lineup here headed by Henry De Bromhead’s Mystical Goddess, who holds obvious claims, but I have my eye on another mare who could be going under the radar this season.
Then we move onto the headline race of the day, which is the Grade 3 Bottlegreen Hurdle. There are some very exciting runners in the field, which include Daddy Long Legs, King Of Kingsfield, and (most notably) Brighterdaysahead. It’s going to be a really good race which will set us up for an exciting weekend ahead, so let’s get into it.
Coral has a pretty decent free bet offer that’s ideal for your weekend bets. If you sign up and
bet £5, you’ll get £20 in free bets. Take a look!
This Mares Novices’ Hurdle looks like a cracking contest. Here we’ll see Speculatrix, who is a horse with plenty of ability, but one that has yet to put it all together on the course. However, it is worth mentioning that Gordon Elliott targets this meeting, so a big performance is far from out of the question. Both Mystical Goddess and Royal Hollow set a fair standard here, and are likely to head the betting.
However, I am far more interested in Colm Murphy’s mare,
Savante. She is a smashing mare, and looks like she has a big engine too. She won on her Bumper debut, then went on to win on her Hurdles debut at Tramore too. In the latter race she pulled clear of the Willie Mullins’ hotpot, Cool Park, going on to win by more than six lengths.
Savante drops back to two miles here, but that shouldn’t be an issue for her, she has more than enough speed to carry it off, and she’s sure to get very competitive in this contest.
Next up, we have a seriously good Grade 3 Hurdle, with some fascinating contenders in the lineup. Daddy Long Legs is already a Grade 3 winner himself, and beat Smooth Tom by 16 lengths when the pair met last time out at Tipperary. As a 150-rated Hurdler, he sets a strong standard and he has race fitness on his side. We also have King Of Kingsfield, who is one of the two Gigginstown entries, and another who is more than entitled to improve this season.
But it’s all eyes on his stablemate, Brighterdaysahead, who has a huge engine and really showed what she was made of in the Grade 1 Mersey Hurdle at Aintree. Not only was she impressive in the way she travelled, but she also beat the geldings and never looked in any danger. Brighterdaysahead is a mare open to significant potential this season, and even though she has 5lbs to find with Daddy Long Legs, she looks open to much more, and should prove very hard to beat here.
