My final betting tip for this week runs in the 1m 2.5f Handicap at York today. Despite him being a nine-year-old now, I believe he has an exceptional chance of winning another valuable Handicap here. I’m actually quite shocked that he is available at a double-figure price, especially with four places on offer, and I think he’s a superb each way bet.
If you’re new to my betting.co.uk articles, I typically post four articles most weeks. These are mostly betting tips, but you’ll also come across big race trends and antepost picks too. Speaking of the latter, I have already put up antepost selections for the Northumberland Plate, 2026 Cheltenham Festival and the 2026 Grand National, for example.
Lastly, I'm currently working on something a bit different for you, which will be published over the weekend. Don’t forget to check back in to see what I’ve come up with!
While there is 11/1 available elsewhere, there are only 3 places. On that basis, I think the 10/1 with 4 places BetMGM are offering is much better value if you plan on backing Sir Busker today. As well as that valuable extra place, they also have a generous welcome offer for new customers. If you bet £10, they’ll give you £40 of free bets to use however you want.
I have plenty of reasons to think Sir Busker has an exceptional chance today, and in this article I’ll tell you exactly why. When you’ve finished reading, hopefully you’ll come to the same conclusion as me, that he is completely underestimated here at a double-figure price.
With a record of two wins and two places from his five runs at York, Sir Busker clearly thrives at this track. Notably, his two wins here were also his most recent, the second one coming in August last year. In addition, both wins were over 1m 2.5f, the exact same trip as today’s race.
For the second of his two wins it was today’s jockey, Brandon Wilkie, in the saddle. He claimed 5lb that day, and although he only claims 3lb today, I feel Brandon Wilkie has improved sufficiently since then to offset the extra 2lb.
The latest win for Sir Busker came off a mark of 105 and he’s now dropped down to 104. Off this 1lb lower mark, I think he is very dangerously treated, especially returning to this track.
Interestingly, although it was back in July 2022, his first win here came off 6lb higher with a mark of 110. He also won in great style last August and off this current mark, I think he could take some beating if he turns up in the same form.
To be seen at his best, Sir Busker wants quick ground. His last two wins have come on Good to Firm, and he gets those same conditions here today. The official going is Good to Firm, Good in places, with watering planned and a “light rain” forecast.
However, I can see next to no rain forecast myself and certainly not enough to change the going anyway. Likewise, I expect the watering is scheduled in order to keep the ground safe, rather than to change the going conditions.
I’d be very shocked if the ground isn’t riding on the quick side at the time of Sir Busker’s race and if that’s the case, he’ll be racing with his favoured conditions.
With his handicap mark back down below his last winning level, a return to C&D, and the ground in his favour, I think Sir Busker has an exceptional chance of recording another victory here. As mentioned earlier, I think the 10/1 with 4 places on offer at BetMGM is fantastic value, and makes Sir Busker a great each way bet.
However, we are reliant on the watering being at sensible levels, and the rain staying away from York as per the forecast. At the age of nine, he is getting on a bit now, and he may not be what he once was, so a repeat of last August’s performance is not guaranteed.
As well as these concerns, he hasn’t exactly been in the best form during this season’s campaign. His two runs so far have been in Listed company though, and while that looks beyond him at this stage of his career, dropping back down into Handicap company should make this task much easier for him. I'm fairly hopeful he’ll bounce back today, but with the niggling concerns, I’m trimming the stake down to 0.75pt each way.
Below are some of our betting partners and the offers they currently have available, so be sure to take a close look. If you open an account today, you’ll be all set to use your free bets for this weekend’s racing action!
While I typically produce four articles each week for betting.co.uk with free-to-access betting tips, the majority of my selections are exclusively for my Discord members.
The Discord members enjoyed a very profitable month in April. For the advised prices and place terms (no standouts), we were +17.17pts, and using the best prices and place terms, we were +30.53pts.
We were in profit again for May. At the advised prices and place terms we were +5.095pts, and at the best available prices and place terms, we were +10.24pts.
If you had signed up at the start of April, and bet £10 per advised point, taking the best prices and place terms available, you would have generated a profit of +£407.70 across the last two months.
If all of that is not enough, we have already hit 4/1, 12/1, 4/1, 4/1, 5/2, 11/2, 9/1, 16/1 (45p Rule 4) & 2/1 winners in June with many more places!
