After a four article hiatus with a results piece and three antepost selections, I returned to daily tipping with a bang yesterday! I targeted the Racing League action after my 10/1 win with Intervention a couple of weeks back, and we picked out another 9/1 winner with Whathappensinvegas. Today we head to racing HQ where I’m uncharacteristically backing a market favourite!
Unless a big meeting is happening, I’m usually posting four articles per week for betting.co.uk. These can be a mixture of daily tips, antepost tips, guides and big race trends. At the end of each month, I also publish a results breakdown.
If antepost tips are of interest to you, be sure to check out these, which are still active: The York Ebor Handicap, the St Leger, the 2025 King George VI Chase, the 2026 Cheltenham Festival and the 2026 Grand National. By getting in early, you will get the best value!

At the time of writing, the vast majority of bookmakers are pricing Cancan In The Rain up at either 11/4 or 3/1. However, bet365 have decided to offer the best terms on the market by going 10/3, which must be taken. As well as offering a great price, they have a superb offer for new customers too. If you bet £10, they’ll give you £30 of free bets. A fantastic boost as we head into the weekend.
Last time out, Cancan In The Rain was a 7/1 winner for my Discord members. I fancy his chances of winning again today and in this article, I’ll show you why.
I believe Cancan In The Rain was unlucky not to win his penultimate start, when he was just mowed down late by Absolute Star. Being critical, I felt that Elizabeth Gale, who claims 7lb, committed for home too soon, and he just ran out of steam inside the final furlong. However, she is a 7lb claimer and therefore deserves some leniency. Generally speaking, she’s great value for her claim. Basically, if you’re going to make mistakes, make them now when you’re still claiming. Of course, it could simply be that Absolute Star was just very well handicapped and it was out of Elizabeth’s hands. We’ll know more when she runs on Saturday.
Last time out, George Wood took over, and Cancan In The Rain switched to the AW at Southwell dropped back to 7f, where he made amends and won. That was off a 1lb higher mark of 69, and produced a very strong RPR of 78. The handicapper has had his say by raising him 3lb, but I feel he could have underestimated him, especially as he had to challenge up the centre of the track and hung badly.
Those last two runs have been very solid and he could have easily been coming here off the back of two wins. When he’s in such great form, there is no reason to think he won’t put in another huge effort.
When you look back through Cancan In The Rain’s record, he has a C&D win from back in June 2023, when he was under the care of Charlie Johnston. Interestingly, that C&D win, albeit two years ago, came off a 4lb higher mark of 76.That was no fluke performance either, as he ran to a similar level when winning a Novice Stakes at Yarmouth as a two-year-old, and when beaten into third by less than a length at Goodwood, the run prior to his win.
Since then he has achieved a very solid fourth at Lingfield (RPR of 80), two close second places at Southwell and Ayr (both RPRs of 80) and a close third at Southwell again (RPR of 78). When you consider how he won at Southwell last time, and all of this strong previous form, I think there is every chance he is capable of going in again off a mark of 72. I certainly feel the handicapper could have been far stronger with his weight rise. By 18:30 today, he may well wish that he had been.
All of the form mentioned that came on Turf, took place on Good or Good to Firm going, so he should relish the Good to Firm, Good in places conditions today. We also know he stays this stiff 1m, as he managed to do it as a three-year-old for Charlie Johnston.
As well as the ground conditions, I think it is crucial that the visor worn by Cancan In The Rain in his last two races is retained here. He clearly responds very well to wearing it, so I’m very happy to see it in place again.
In an ideal world, I’d like to see a horse go forward and give Cancan In The Rain a tow into the race, especially stepping back up to 1m on a stiff track. Hopefully Just Typical will be the one to do that, but there doesn’t look an awful lot of pace in the race. In fact, it looks like it could be a weak pace. In any race, you need to have plan B and plan C if not more, on top of your plan A. Whilst I’d expect plan A would be to take a lead, I wouldn’t be against George Wood being aggressive in this race to ensure there is an honest gallop. Ultimately, I’d rather see Cancan In The Rain run his race, get tired, and get collared than staying on too late and not quite getting there!
For me, it’s always a case of weighing up the pros and cons and seeing where the price sits. The price tends to dictate whether it’s a bet and the combinations of pros and cons will then dictate how strong a bet it is stake wise. Sometimes the price can dictate the strength of the bet too though. If I feel it’s the wrong price, I may have a bigger bet on it.
For this one, the market largely has it right, with Cancan In The Rain as the market favourite. But there is enough juice at the 10/3 price for me to get involved here. There are plenty of positives - he is in great form, he’s a C&D winner, he’s won off a higher mark (which also came over C&D), George Wood is retained to ride, the visor is retained and he gets his favoured ground. On the negative side, there isn’t a great deal other than the potential for a weak pace and the fact the aforementioned C&D win came back in 2023. As a result of the number of positives, I’m having a full 1pt Win, but as we do have a couple of niggling negatives, I won’t be going any higher.
For me, I’d see Cancan In The Rain more as a 6/4 or 2/1 shot here, so the 10/3 on offer looks great value in my eyes. So, while you won’t often find me backing market favourites, I’m happy to do so today.
Below are some of our betting partners and the offers they currently have available, so make sure that you check them out. If you get the accounts opened today, you’ll be all set to use the free bets and other rewards on this weekend’s action!
