Betting Tips - Friday 19 September 2025 - Ayr

Publish Date: 19/09/2025

Key Points
  • Today’s betting tip loves this track and won the Silver Cup here two years ago
  • He is handicapped to strike and currently sitting 6lb below his last winning mark
  • He has going conditions to suit and I think he has the perfect draw too

For our bet today we head up to Ayr for the Ayr Bronze Cup. I think the horse I’ve selected has a huge chance in this race and I’m positive he is being underestimated judging by his current double figure price!

Are you just seeing my articles for the first time? If so, welcome! I’m RacingGav and I’m the resident horse racing tipster here at Betting.co.uk. I produce five articles per week which are predominantly daily betting tips like this one but they also contain other types of content as well. For example, I also put up other types of betting tips such as antepost. In addition to that, I also write entirely different types of content such as big race trends and guides.

If the antepost betting tips caught your eye then, be sure to check out my articles on the website already. You will find articles containing selections for the Cesarewitch Handicap and King George VI Chase later in 2025. You will also see articles for the 2026 Cheltenham Festival and 2026 Aintree Grand National.

Betting advice

  • 15:40 Ayr - Wobwobwob - @ 11/1 (6 places) - 0.5pt each way

Take the extra place with Unibet!

At the time of writing, Wobwobwob is generally 12/1 with five places being paid each way. However, a handful of bookmakers including Unibet are offering six places for a slightly reduced price of 11/1. I feel the extra place is worth taking the slightly shorter price on, so that is my recommendation. If you do not have an account with Unibet, they have a fantastic sign up offer currently. If you bet £10, they’ll give you £40 of free bets. A fantastic boost as we head into the weekend.

Wobwobwob won the Silver Cup, now he can land the Bronze Cup!

I think Wobwobwob has a fantastic chance of adding the Ayr Bronze Cup to his CV after already landing the more prestigious Silver Cup two years ago. In this article, I’ll show you why.

Wobwobwob loves the track and won the Silver Cup here two years ago

Course form is always a bonus but it is particularly interesting when a horse performs especially well at certain tracks. It becomes even more interesting when there is consistency to that strong form as well.

Wobwobwob has run at Ayr five times in his career and the form reads as follows: -

  • 18th September 2020 - 6f - Good to Soft - 5th of 10 - Mark of 68, RPR of 64
  • 18th September 2021 - 7f - Good - 3rd of 9 - Mark of 88, RPR of 91
  • 28th September 2021 - 7f - Good to Soft - 5th of 12 - Mark of 88, RPR of 87
  • 23rd September 2023 - 6f - Good to Soft - 1st of 25 - Mark of 87, RPR of 96
  • 7th July 2025 - 6f - Good to Soft - 2nd of 11 - Mark of 80, RPR of 86

Now, I’d draw a line through that first run as it was as a two-year-old and he improved dramatically from two to three.

If you look at the four other runs, they have come off marks of 88, 88, 87 and 80 producing RPRs of 91, 87, 96 and 86. A repeat of any of those four runs would give Wobwobwob a huge chance off his current mark of 81. The second last run here was actually in the Silver Cup, which is the big brother of today’s race and he won that. A repeat of anywhere near that level of form would see him very tough to beat today.

The latest run (and therefore most realistic form to use) came in July of this year and he was staying on strongly at the line. I think this bigger field today and likely strong pace to aim at will only bring out a bigger performance and hopefully that will see him go one better.

He is handicapped to strike and currently sitting 6lb below his last winning mark

As touched upon in the previous section, he runs off a mark of 81 today and that has to make him of interest. He has six career wins to date and these have come off marks of 62, 73, 80, 82, 87 and 87. So his last two wins have come off a 6lb higher mark and his last three wins have all come off higher marks than today’s.

His final run of last season came off a turf mark of 86 and he was rated as high as 91 that season (last summer). His first Turf run of this campaign saw him finish 5th at Chester off a mark of 82 which was a very respectable run. Upon dropping a further 2lb to a mark of 80, he went very close over this C&D, just denied half a length when staying on strongly. The handicapper raised him 1lb for that but he backed it up with a further second at Chepstow in a strong looking Racing League Handicap.

As the margin of defeat was three lengths there, the handicapper has kindly left him on an unaltered mark of 81. After going close the last two times, I’m hoping today will be a case of third time lucky and he can break his losing run of 12 races. I think he certainly has every right to be involved in the finish if he can maintain his form but as always, you just need some luck to go with it in these big field Sprint Handicaps.

Wobwobwob has going conditions to suit and I think he has the perfect draw too

His strongest two performances to date were his Silver Cup win over this C&D two years ago and his victory at Thirsk last May. Those two performances produced remarkable RPRs of 96 and 98. Two key elements that those runs had in common is that they both came over a 6f trip and they both came on Good to Soft ground. Interestingly, he gets the Good to Soft ground here again and this race is actually over the same C&D as that Silver Cup win. With conditions to suit, he has no excuses.

Speaking of no excuses, I think he actually has a pretty perfect looking draw as well in stall five here. As a general rule, in these Sprint Handicaps, you want to be drawn near the pace and arguably, that can be more important than the stall position. If you look through the race, I would expect Kelpie Grey to go forward and I would also expect Eternal Sunshine to go forward. Those two horses are drawn in stalls four and one respectively, so they have low draws near to Wobwobwob. In fact, Kelpie Grey is drawn in the very next stall.

Furthermore, they had a 5f Handicap on the card here yesterday and in that race, the low numbers heavily dominated the field. Therefore, I’m hoping the very apparent bias remains in place for the running of this Ayr Bronze Cup. If it does, it only strengthens the case for Wobwobwob from that draw in stall five.

Can Wobwobwob land another big Handicap at Ayr?

As always, you need to weigh up the positives, the negatives and the price when deciding on a bet. I think the positives are overwhelming here. He has fantastic course form including winning the big brother of today’s race. He is handicapped to strike, he has conditions to suit and he is drawn very well in my opinion (time will tell!). I think Wobwobwob is at his best when he has a strong pace to aim at and that looks to be on the cards here with a few that will want to go forward in today’s race. We know he stays 6f very strongly as he is a winner over 7f, so as a few are crying out for the line, he should be finishing like a train - Hopefully coming out on top!

In terms of the negatives, he is seven now and he doesn’t seem to quite be the horse he once was. Realistically, at his age, he is largely going to continue to decline rather than find new career bests. He has also been beaten the last twice, so he needs to find that little extra to get his head home in front rather than being a bridesmaid again. His losing run now sits at 12 races and the longer it goes on, the more the doubt creeps in and it is bound to have an effect on his confidence. Finally, as touched upon earlier in the article, you always need luck in these 5f Handicaps, especially when there is a big field.

Considering the positives and negatives, I think he is underestimated and overpriced at 11/1 to12/1. With six places on offer at a price of 11/1, I think he looks a fantastic each way bet. However, given the negatives and the luck required to win this type of race, I’m only willing to play half stakes on this one. It only takes a change in the track bias or some bad luck in-running and your chances can be ruined. Let’s hope though that he can go one better than the last twice and add the Ayr Bronze Cup to his CV alongside the Ayr Silver Cup.
