The weekend is almost upon us again and we’ve witnessed some fantastic racing this week. But before we get there, I have two betting tips for Friday, and I’m confident that both have a chance of getting into the winner’s enclosure. My selections both come from the Karl Burke yard, and he is pretty much on fire at the moment.
Looking ahead to the weekend, we have the first Irish Classics of the season, with the Irish 2000 and 1000 Guineas coming from the Curragh, and I’ll be bringing you a runner-by-runner guide to both of these big events, together with my verdict and betting tips of course.
For Friday’s racing, BetMGM have a cracking offer for you. If you
bet £10, you’ll get £40 in free bets. A great deal if you’re planning to have a punt.
We have a cracking renewal of the Festival Stakes here, and the firm ground is going to make it a brilliant contest to watch. Isle Of Jura is a really interesting contender. He has returned to the UK following a stint in Bahrain, where he won four of his five runs, so he sets a really decent standard in this field. Of course he will need to prove that he can transfer that form to Goodwood, but he’s certain to get very competitive for the George Scott team. Mujtaba is a lovely horse from the Shadwell operation, but he has been disappointing on his two starts this season, making him a risky prospect here.
Anyway, my choice is
Royal Rhyme, a nice four-year-old who is open to plenty of improvement for the Karl Burke team. He won a Handicap at Goodwood before stepping up into Listed company at Ayr, where he won the Doonside Cup in good style.
His next race was the Group 1 Champion Stakes, where he finished just five lengths back off King Of Steel, and that form is huge. If this Karl Burke gelding is ready to go after a break from the track, then running off a mark of 113 he’d barely need any improvement to win here.
This Listed race is a fascinating contest and we have some really nice unexposed types in this field. The Owen Burrows-trained Raqiya is one of those, and I think she is definitely going to turn into a smart type with a little bit more experience behind her. That said, she could be classy enough to get competitive and has a course and distance win on her CV already.
Electric Storm is a lovely type for the James Tate yard, who is a rather interesting one. She has wins to her credit over six and seven furlongs, and was also tried over the five furlong trip, which she found a little too short, so stepping back up to six here should suit her well.
There are other nice unexposed types in here too, but I’m going to side with the more experienced Got To Love A Grey, another hot prospect from the Karl Burke yard. She sets a high standard already and runs off a mark of 99, so she is streets ahead of her rivals here. The Haydock track is almost certain to suit her well, and she’s a very game filly who finishes her races well. At this level, she has to have a massive chance.
