We are very close to the weekend now, and hopefully we can head into it with a winner at Sandown today. I think my betting tip is underestimated in the market at 8/1, and I believe she can outrun her odds for us here.
If you’re looking at my articles for the first time, I am the resident horse racing tipster here at Betting.co.uk. I typically produce four articles each week which are mostly daily betting tips. I do occasionally produce other types of content as well, including guides, big race trends and antepost selections.
If antepost betting is something you’re interested in, make sure you check out my existing antepost picks. These include the St Leger next month, the Cesarewitch Handicap in October, the King George VI Chase in December, and then next year’s Cheltenham Festival and the 2026 Aintree Grand National.
At the time of writing, Betfair is offering the joint-best price on Tronido at 8/1. I think that’s great value and so is their sign up offer. If you bet £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets. It’s well worth considering if you are not already a Betfair customer!
I like Tronido’s chances today, and I certainly think she can outrun her current odds of 8/1. So read on as I break down my reasons for betting on her today.
In June last year, Tronido won twice, off marks of 53 and 62 respectively. She then went on to finish second off a mark of 69. All of this form suggests that she is well-handicapped today, as she has now dropped back down to a mark of 58.
Interestingly, Tronido’s latest win, which was back in June of last year, was in a Class 5 Fillies’ Handicap for horses rated 0-70, and connections have found a very similar opportunity for her today.
So far in her career, Tronido has had two runs at this track, finishing third in both races. The first of those was over today’s 1m trip, on Good ground, and the second was over 7f on Soft ground.
Her third place over today’s distance was her peak run, judged on RPR, and if she can produce a similar performance of around 73, she would have an outstanding chance off her mark of 58 today.
It was worrying that after a strong second and third run of the season, Tronido’s fourth and fifth runs were so poor. However, they tried her in a hood last time out and she put on a greatly improved performance.
I am pleased to see the hood has been retained for this run as well, especially as it’s over the 1m trip, rather than 7f.
I think there is every chance that Tronido will run a huge race today. She is certainly handicapped to strike, connections seem to have found an ideal race for her, she has solid form over C&D, and the hood brought in last time is retained here. In addition, Paddy Bradley, who has been on board for both of her wins, is back in the saddle today.
On the negative side, she has lost 12 races on the trot now, which is a concern. Likewise, her record on Turf is zero from eight runs, so she needs to prove she can win on this surface.
Considering both elements, I have decided to play half stakes on this one. There is enough on the negative side of the debate to bring this bet down to a modest level, so that is exactly what we will do.
