We have arrived at Day 1 of the Glorious Goodwood meeting, where we’ll see five days of exceptional Group racing, and I have two selections lined up for you. My first pick runs in the Group 2 Vintage Stakes, which boasts a very strong lineup this year. While several runners have strong form, they could be vulnerable to this rapid improver, and I’m hoping we can get off to a winning start.
However, my NAP of the day comes in the next race, the Group 3 Lennox Stakes. This horse is seemingly improving with age, and looks plenty overpriced to me. He has conditions to suit and ticks far more boxes than most, so I expect a very strong run and will be disappointed if he gets beaten here.
There is one more Group race Day 1, but I haven’t covered it due to the short price of the worthy favourite, Kyprios. He will be tough to beat and it's well worth tuning in for, but from a betting perspective, I’m leaving this race alone. For Day 2 of Glorious Goodwood, I’ll have three more selections lined up, so be sure to come back tomorrow to check those out.

My first selection for Glorious Goodwood comes in the Group 2 Vintage Stakes where we have an intriguing eight-runner field. Electrolyte is a nice sort for Wathnan Racing, but he was disappointing last time out and probably has a few questions to answer against some more likely improvers. Aomori City is probably the main danger here, following on from his third place in the July Stakes, which is probably his best performance to date. He has plenty of stamina in his pedigree and will surely make his presence felt again here.
But I think the one to side with is Ballydoyle’s entry,
The Parthenon. He was chucked in at the deep end on debut, straight into a Group 3 against experienced horses, but he wasn’t beaten by much. He deserved favouritism at Gowran Park next time out, where he was stepped up to seven furlongs, and looks ready to improve again on just the third start of his career.
He took a while to get into stride at Gowran, but got better as the race went on and the Goodwood track looks sure to suit his running style. Trainer Aiden O’Brien knows exactly what's needed to beat Aomori City, and The Parthenon could easily prove too classy for his rivals. This is a very strong race, but I think he can improve enough to take the win here.
Next up we have the Group 3 Lennox Stakes, where Royal Ascot winner English Oak is currently the joint favourite. He is a nice four-year-old, who is on the up, but he is taking on the older horses here, which is never easy and he is likely to find one or two too good. The other joint favourite is Kinross, who is a multiple Group winner, but he is now a seven-year-old and hasn’t totally seemed himself this season. That said, a return to form would see him as the one to beat.
Meanwhile, I’m going to take a chance on Noble Dynasty, for the Godolphin team, who looks in great form this season. He beat English Oak whilst giving him 15 lbs, which is a massive amount, and on that basis alone he is clearly overpriced. He is a strong traveller, who just gets better as the race goes on and he is a very straightforward sort too. He is a six-year-old now, but is clearly in the form of his life and tactics are no issue for him either. I think he is being overlooked here and should be the market favourite, so Noble Dynasty gets my vote
