As we move on to Day 4 of Glorious Goodwood, we have already enjoyed some superb racing. The excitement continues on Friday with the Group 3 Bonham Stakes over a mile, where I have a strong fancy lined up. Just over an hour later, we have the highlight race of the day which is the Group 2 Qatar Stakes for the Sprinters. Although Big Evs is the hot favourite, I'm backing a 20/1 shot, who is returning to his optimum conditions, and ticks many boxes as a sound each way bet.
I originally had a third selection for you, but unfortunately he has been declared a non-runner, so rather than forcing another pick, we'll stick with those two and have a solid chance of picking up some winnings. There’s a big day coming up at Goodwood on Saturday, with two Group races to examine, and I'll also have a betting tip for the Stewards Cup Handicap too, so be sure to check back in for those.
Not only is Bet365 offering the best prices for Day 4 at Goodwood, they also have a fantastic offer for new customers. If you
bet £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets. We have a big Saturday coming up, so give it your best shot.
We start off with the Group 3 Bonham Stakes, where the beautifully-bred Lead Artist is likely to prove popular. He certainly looks a fairly progressive colt after just three starts, but he has nearly four lengths to find with current favourite Al Musmak, and will perhaps need to find even more on this faster surface. Task Force hasn’t been at his best in his two starts this season, but his two-year-old form stacks up quite nicely, and it’s not outside the realms of possibility that he can turn this season's form around. If he can, then he’d be a solid each way bet here.
But I’m siding with
Al Musmak
this time. He beat Lead Artist comfortably last time out, and really appreciated the drop back to a mile. His first two races this year were over 1m 2f, and he travelled well in both, but faded in the final furlong each time.
The mile looks like his optimum trip, and he showed a lovely turn of foot to put the race to bed last time out, so a repeat performance will see him very tough to beat.
We move on to the Qatar Stakes for the Sprinters and this looks like it will be a seriously good contest. Big Evs is the obvious place to start and perhaps sets the standard in this field. There is no doubt that he is rapid on his day, but it was surprising that he couldn’t get the job done last time out in the King Charles Stakes at Ascot, which gives me some cause for concern. Meanwhile, the four-year-old Believing is a smart filly, who is ticking along nicely, and she is another who is likely to be on the premises.
However, at a huge price of 20/1, I am drawn to Moss Tucker, who has the second-best official rating in the field, and this race could well set up perfectly for him. He won on his seasonal debut at Naas, beating Ocean Quest over five furlongs, which is some very strong form, but he faded late on over six furlongs next time out at the Curragh. He is a very strong traveller with plenty of speed, which is a big bonus at Goodwood and he is being dropped back to five furlongs again. On a day where he has conditions, track and trip to suit, I am going to give him an each way chance at a massive price.
