Last weekend, I introduced a new type of article - an each way Lucky 15 based on the ITV Racing action. My regular tipping is all about slow and steady long term returns, and while some punters prefer that, I know many of you enjoy something a bit more spicy! That means my Saturday Lucky 15 bets will become a regular here, and bring you some Saturday fun. We broke even on our first Lucky 15 with two places achieved, and hopefully we can do even better this week.

Four each way prices for our Lucky 15!
I could easily give you four short-priced favourites and tell you to back them in a Win only multiple. But anybody can do that. I much prefer to find some value at each way prices, where we can potentially get a nice return from places alone. Of course, if we can land multiple winners, that changes the whole dynamic!
In the following sections, Iāll explain my reasons for selecting these particular horses for our Lucky 15.
Flight @ 6/1 - This filly can bounce back on her second start after a break
Four runs back, Flight was a 28/1 outsider in the 1,000 Guineas. She massively outperformed her odds under Oisin Murphy that day to finish second, beaten by just one length. She didnāt fire on her next two starts in the Irish 1,000 Guineas and the Coronation Stakes, but those races are extremely tough for a young filly, and she was understandably put away for a break after the Coronation Stakes disappointment.
After 71 days off the track, she returned in the Group 3 Atalanta Stakes, where she travelled extremely well, and was one of the last off the bridle. However, she was unable to sustain the effort and dropped away tamely ahead of the finish.
My assumption is that the combination of soft ground over one mile, and the lack of a recent run, were the main reasons. Dropping back to 7f looks wise, given how well she travelled last time, and hopefully she has stepped forward for that run. If Flight is anywhere near her best today, I feel that she will take some beating.
Lady Of Spain @ 11/2 - This unbeaten filly can step forward again and make it six on the trot
Last time out Lady Of Spain won the Atalanta Stakes, which was her fifth consecutive victory. That performance was particularly impressive, as it was her first run after a 255 day absence, and it was also her first run on Turf. A performance like that after such a lengthy absence from the track suggests there is plenty of improvement still to come from this filly, and we also know now that she acts on the ground.
If the expected rain comes to fruition, Iām sure Lady Of Spain can handle it, whereas the current favourite, Cindarellaās Dream, could really struggle. On the flip side, we know Fallen Angel wonāt have a problem, so Iād say sheās the biggest danger to our horse. Nothing much else would concern me in this line up.
Blue Bolt wasnāt far away from Lady Of Spain last time out, but I feel he has less scope for improvement. Between that and the fact he only gets 3lb rather than 6lb today, I cannot see him turning the form around. If it becomes absolutely bottomless though, Sparks Fly could enter the equation at a huge priceā¦
Apollo One @ 6/1 - This gelding can successfully defend his crown in the Bengough Stakes
Last year, Apollo One went for the Portland Handicap at Doncaster, where he was narrowly denied by a nose. The winner that day was a subsequent Group 1 winner, American Affair, so itās safe to say that form reads well now. Apollo One then came here for the Group 3 Bengough Stakes, which he won in great style.
Interestingly, he wasnāt at his best in his next five starts, albeit some of them were solid runs in defeat. What I do find notable though is that he is now walking the already trodden path this season. Last time out it was like history repeating itself, he ran in the Portland Handicap at Doncaster, finished second, and almost won again!
The way he stayed on powerfully through the line bodes well for this step back up in trip. I think he can produce a repeat performance and win this race again. He certainly sets a high standard, and if he doesnāt manage to win back to back renewals, I certainly think heāll be in the mix at the finish.
Purosangue @ 12/1 - This gelding can break his long losing run with a step up in trip here
After the rainfall at Ayr last month which finally made the ground Soft, I decided to back Purosangue in the Ayr Gold Cup. I have been waiting and waiting for him to get his preferred softer ground, and I was convinced on his old form that he was a Group horse running in a Handicap. Sadly, whilst he performed well, and ran on strongly, it was all too late for him.
What I did find interesting is that he looked like he would drop away when he was struggling to catch the leaders. However, he really impressed me when he dug deep and battled all the way to the line. He didnāt just plod on through the line either, he performed the fastest final furlong of any horse in the race. With the way he ran, I felt he could enjoy a step up in trip, and his connections clearly felt the same, as he now moves up in trip to 7f.
Purosangue came fourth on his latest run, which was a really solid effort. If he handles the step up in distance today, and I believe he will, I think he has a fantastic chance - certainly a far better one than his double figure odds suggest anyway!
For an each way Lucky 15, you need four horses that have a decent chance of placing. Even without a winner, a Lucky 15 still brings a fair return if you pick up sufficient places. Of course, everybody would love to land a big one where all four selections win, but you must also be realistic. Itās nice to include a fun multiple every so often, and I like all four of todayās picks. Hopefully they will all perform at their best for us. If so, weāll have a fantastic day!
