Racing fans, I’ve decided to drop you in an extra couple of betting tips this week as the Friday Jumps card at Newbury is an absolute cracker. My two selections are both each way shots and the first of them is a really consistent horse, who already has some decent form behind him. The other is very unexposed, and I think that he has a really bright future ahead of him.
A busy weekend lies ahead, and we’ll be returning to the Flat card at Doncaster tomorrow. Also, as mentioned in my last article, I will have an each way Lucky 15 for you to get stuck into for Saturday, but that could just turn into a Lucky 31, as there is a fifth selection I am considering, but it will depend on his price. Whatever happens, make sure you check in again tomorrow. Hopefully we can kick off the Flat season in style.

My first selection at Newbury comes in the two-mile Handicap Hurdle and there is a decent bunch in the lineup for this 14-runner race. Along with some promising unexposed horses in here, there’s also a few nice Handicap types too. Imperial Saint, for Phillip Hobbs, is one that catches the eye. He joined the team after winning a point-to-point race in Ireland, and then made an impressive debut at Ludlow on his first start for new connections.
He was a little green next time out at Chepstow, but still pulled clear with the winner. Chepstow isn’t the easiest course for an inexperienced horse, but he did quite well and looks like he could have come on for that run. I think he is likely to be well-handicapped here, and provided he settles better, then he would have a good chance of running a big race again.
Doyen Quest is another unexposed type here, he is relatively unexposed and he has finished very strongly in all of his races. I imagine there will be plenty of pace in this field and that will suit him well. He is another that is well-handicapped, but again, he does need to continue the upward curve to get into the mix here.
For me though, the one to be on here is Steel Ally, for Sam Thomas, who won in fine style last time out, six lengths clear of the second-placed Dartmoor Pirate, and I think that experience bodes well for him. This is going to be a strongly-run race, which will suit Steel Ally perfectly. He is a really solid option, but one that definitely has a touch of class too. I really rate his chances.
This three mile Handicap Hurdle has a decent enough field overall, but there is one horse in here that I have been following closely and I’d dearly love to see him bounce back to form. Despite there being plenty of exposed sorts in this field Mt Fugi Park is a horse I have become a little attached to. He is a lovely gelding that runs for the Jonjo O’Neill team and he was three from three before being pulled up in a Grade 2 last time out.
It was clear that there was some issue, as he was running fine one minute and not the next, but there was never any real explanation. Prior to that he had been improving very nicely indeed, so I’m willing to put a line through that one sub-par performance. He’s had a month off since then, which should have put him back on track, and he’s dropping down a grade here, so I think he’s a decent each way bet.
