The weekend has arrived and so has my Saturday betting tip! Today we are off for a rare visit across the Irish Sea to the Curragh, where I’ve found a horse with a cracking chance, and his jockey booking has really grabbed my attention too. I feel he is well worth an each way bet today, and I’m hopeful he can deliver another Saturday winner for us!
If you are not already familiar with me, I’m RacingGav and I’m the resident horse racing tipster here at Betting.co.uk. I publish five articles per week here which vary from daily or antepost betting tips, to guides and big race trends. As of this weekend, in addition to my usual Saturday tip, you’ll find a Lucky 15, with four selections from the ITV Racing action, so make sure you check that out too! This is intended to add a little more fun to the day for all the less-frequent punters out there.
At the time of writing, Heavenly Power is priced from 4/1 to 5/1 at most bookies. However, bet365 are sticking their neck out with a stand out price of 6/1! That is well worth taking up, especially as they are offering four places, when some are only offering three. If you don’t have a bet365 account already, then you can take advantage of their new customer deal. If you bet £10, you’ll get £30 in free bets. Make sure you don’t miss out!
I think Heavenly Power has the stars aligned for a big run today and I’m more than happy to explain my logic. Intrigued? Then make sure you keep reading to the end.
Heavenly Power is a five-time winner, with four wins over 6f and one over 5.5f, so you could be forgiven for questioning whether this 7f trip is right for him. However, he ran a mighty 7f race at Cork back in June, albeit finishing second, but he looked to stay the trip really well to me. He was clearly ridden to get the trip at Cork, but I think he’ll be asked for a bit more today, after proving he can stay.
Of course, Cork is a different course from the Curragh, but Heavenly Power has already clocked up three wins here, so we know he acts on this track. In addition, he has achieved five second places here, making it a total of eight races where he has finished in the top two!
Heavenly Power’s pedigree also backs up his 7f claim, as he is full brother to 7f winner Phantom Power, and a half-brother to 7f winner Cool Power. I think Heavenly Power’s potential over this trip needs exploring further, especially as he is a seven-year-old now, and it could well be the key to getting his head in front again.
Just as eye-catching as Heavenly Power’s record here, and arguably more so, is that Billy Lee is booked to ride. Billy has already ridden Heavenly Power twice this season. The first time was his last win at Naas in October 2024, and the second was last time out at Cork.
A win and a second from just two rides on Heavenly Power is a pretty impressive record! Those two performances produced RPRs of 97 and 96 respectively, and if Billy Lee can get a similar tune out of him again today, he must have a fantastic chance in this race.
At the time of writing the official going at the Curragh is ‘Good to Yielding, Yielding in places’ with further rain forecast. According to the forecast I use, the course is expecting 16mm of rain between 05:00 and 12:00, which is quite significant, but as we all know the weather remains a guessing game!
Whilst a significant ground change could have a serious impact on the chances of some in today’s field, I’d still be pretty happy with Heavenly Power rain or not. His best form has come on Good and Yielding ground, and he has won on both. But he has also won twice on Soft going, and placed on Soft to Heavy. The only slight concern I have is that deeper ground places more emphasis on stamina and he’s already upped to 7f here.
That said, he looks handicapped to strike and this could be his ideal opportunity, especially so with Billy Lee in the saddle. Heavenly Power is capable of achieving a RPR of 96 or 97, and has already done so twice this season. If he can produce that level of performance off his current mark of 89, he will have a fair few pounds in hand today, which should be sufficient for him to land this race.
In my opinion, there is an awful lot in favour of backing Heavenly Power today. This season he has shown that he still retains his full ability, we know he acts at the Curragh, and he should relish this 7f trip. In addition, the repeat booking of Billy Lee is a huge plus point, especially given Billy’s phenomenal record with this horse.
At the same time, I appreciate that Heavenly Power can blow slightly hot and cold. However, the two runs that he’s been a tad ‘cold’ this season have been very hot races, so they’re easy enough to forgive. There is also the question of how the going will end up, which is always something of a guessing game when a lot of rain is forecast. However, I take comfort from knowing that he is versatile on the ground front, or at least, far more versatile that many of his rivals.
At the time of writing, a couple of bookmakers have priced Heavenly Power up at 4/1 and I’d say that’s a fair price for him. Arguably, I’d have him even shorter with so much in his favour. That alone makes the 6/1 on offer with bet365 fantastic value and well worth a bet considering the four places on offer. Given that Heavenly Power needs to prove that his last run sets the standard, and the weather is up in the air (pardon the pun) I’m going to trim the stake down slightly to 0.75pt each way today.
Below you will find five of our recommended bookmakers and the fantastic free bet offers they currently have available. Whether you want to back Heavenly Power today, or try out a Lucky 15 bet instead, there's plenty of value to be had!
